The right balance

I think finally (it only took us 6 months) we have the team balance right.Moving Corey Norman to fullback allows Moses to do his thing and finally we have a half good hooker. Add a few young guys debuting who have the hunger to play first grade and we are finally looking like a football side again. Next year with the addition of Junior Paulo and Blake Ferguson and a few more young guys like Oregan Kaufusi coming through we will be able to compete again. I like what I see in Salmon and with him at 5/8 will allow Moses to take control of our attack. I just don't know why it took so long.

Happy days ahead

  • Why what took so long?

  • Some good points there mate, but for the real right balance head to www.infowars.com

  • Ask yourself why the Dragons last week had very little field position & possession against us? Because we grabbed the game by the throat, played agressive, kept our foot on the throat & controlled the game well.
  • I think you are spot on with the balance, the real test will be this weekend.

Norman looks a lot more comfortable at fullback in attack and his positioning in defense is better than Gutherson's.

The real issue will be next year if we can't move Norman on (even though we shouldn't).

With Sivo and Ferguson coming that will move Hayne into left center (if he stays).

Then where do you put Gutherson to balance the team?

  • I agree Frankie, too many here change their opinions when the wind changes. I never thought the sky was falling ion when we were losing, nor am I getting carried away with our recent winning. It is good, but let's keep a lid on it. The fact is we are playing well in part because we have nothing to lose at the moment and as such the boys are relaxed and just enjoying their footy. The trick for BA and the team next year will be to play with the same confidence when the stakes are higher.

    • Enhanced timing improved our attack and defence and I can only put it down to improved fitness thanks to our improved trainers/S&C staff. I haven't seen such crisp timing since the late run in 2009.

The semi v storm last year was impressive but nowhere near as good as last Saturday night.

If they maintain this standard and even improve a little, we will beat the Storm this Friday night. I reckon a huge pay back is in the wind amongst our club after being cheated by the corrupt NRL in last years semi v Storm in Melbourne (we beat the fuckers but NRL wanted Storm/Cameron Smith to win).

I'm not going to be surprised if our squad thrashes Storm in Melb. Last Saturday night was a different team, the vibe was so up even before the kick off. If only it was like this for 80 minutes since round 1 v Panthers.

  • Reed Mahoney and Jarryd Hayne have been the two big difference the last 5 or 6 weeks.  A class player like Hayne as a point of difference and a dummy half capable of decent service and getting the forwards over the advantage line.  It's amazing what can happen, Knowing BA he will would probably prefer Kaysa as his number 1 dummy half still.

    • It just goes to show that the Dragons or any other team will look as useless as we did all year if they're forced to play fatigued because they had bugger-all ball possession & very little good field position.

I believe Parra has had the absolute least ball possession (due to our poor completion rate & por discipline) in total from all the games played this year & I'd be shocked if we haven't had more players sent to the sin bin than any other team.

      • What we forced the Dragons to go through (playing fatigued due to our fantastic completion rate & improved discipline) is exactly the advantage we have been giving to our opponents all season long.

I've been going on & on about it on here for years, but it was only this year when someone on here wrote their blog titled "Possession is king". Nothing is more important in the NRL than completing your sets & not giving away penalties. This way, you remain much fresher while your opponents get more & more fatigued. It's a snowball effect & a vicious cycle for the team with the least ball possession. Everything gets worse as your fatigue does.

And that's the reason why I'm not getting carried away with last weeks win (don't get me wrong, I'm over the moon with our massive improvement in all areas of our game this past month/month & half) because we've been having the same problems since pre & post 2009 of always having far less ball possession than our opponents via poor set-completions & poor discipline. It basically makes EVERYTHING MUCH EASIER for our MUCH FRESHER opponents to kill our ever-fatiging team.
