Well, you have to ask, "Who has the most to gain - and who is most aggrieved with the current board and chairman?"
One particular wealthy former chairman immediately comes to mind - who certainly has allies within the club and board.
Put it this way, I don't think he'd personally be too upset to see Sharp and co getting publicly hammered by the media or the fans right now!
I think so too!
There is a genuine hatred between the footsoldiers of the various factions in and around the club and they are perfectly prepared to throw the club under the bus in order to score political points.
This has been going on for too long, and, if the NRL deduct all our points, or worse, disallow us to play for points this year, even if Sharp and his board resign, you know that the other faction will be clamoring to take over and so the cycle will continue.
I know this isn't the most popular opinion, but I continue to hold it - if the NRL are being fair dinkum, they'll pressure the board to step down and then replace it with people of their choosing, who are not caught up in this historical war of attrition and will be immune to the factions' influences.
If this means that the likes of extremely well meaning and well informed members like Phil and Muttman, along with the punter members' right to vote on the make-up of the board is put on hold, then sorry, but so be it!
I'd far rather see the club doing well on the field rather than drafting new constitutions off it - that can be the NRL's responsibility - at least for a reasonable amount of time!
They are all benevolent until they get the powwer
One collecting the dirt and the other using his media connections to get it out there
