The Parramatta Paradox

Except for a few brief periods we have played like shit all this year. Despite this we have somehow been in with a chance of winning the game in the last 20 minutes in many of the games. How is this happening?

The Warriors are currently a top 4 team, and we were in with a chance to win last nights game. Yes they had a few key injuries, but top 4 teams should be able to deal with this, and 2-4 injuries these days can not really be used an excuse for anything. It is only the round 2 game against Manly that we have been smashed.

We dont look like playing well enough to win any of the games, yet somehow manage to stay in the games right up the the end.

A couple years back the warriors played low risk footy, and completed at extremely high percentages every week. They did not excell that year, but I have to wonder if it has established a base that they are now expanding on, which whatever they are doing seems to be working well for them (finally).

I really think we have the team to be at 8 wins from 11 games, which would put us in the top 4 if we were not giving away lots of penalties (typically in really bad positions) and making lots of mistakes. Seriously, most games have been lost by 10 points or less. It does baffle me how I can be saying this, as they just dont look like winning, yet it is almost more a case of Parramatta are defeating themselves more often than not.

I dont know what the answer is, but from where I sit, it seems improving discipline on the field is the biggest issue. While the discipline is so poor yet we are staying in the games surely this should be almost the sole focus at training. Once that is up to scratch then go back to normal training. As winter sets in, ball control only gets harder as it gets colder and wetter.

  • In todays game if you score the first try you pretty much have the game won. It is just too difficult for teams to come back from being one try down after only 10 or so minutes

We are giving away too many early points which are biting us in the foot. We dont have the resources to score tries with semi gone which is why we are losing

What we need to do is go the first 20 minutes without making a single error because they turn games and lead to these early points. If cam king doesnt kick tr ball out on the full last night or norman just put his body on the line then fusitua doesnt score that early try and its still an even ball game. But once fusitua scores then we are suddenly playing catch up leading to further errors and oenalties this can lead to at minimum our opponents putting an extra 6 points on the board through penalty goals which has essentially cost us about 5 or 6 games this season
  •  if we get the spoon , no player would sign with the eels. we need to play on and avoid the the spoon.

there seems nothing more we have now.

brad arthur says we only have 2 players that can replace our current player under the top 28 on the cap.

what going on with our coaching staff, noe beau scotts gone with injury\

  • We should have rebuilt by now and guess what you are right we will be paying overs once again not sure why Gutho will stay with us after 2019
  • There was a documentary on the warriors preseason this year. It mentioned how Kearney had given Stacey Jones and Capey McFadden the job of reinventing the Warriors attack. They said then that they were going to use the footy more. Kearney has been a big advocate for conservative footy and his teams were pretty woeful in attack. So he got two ex halfbacks to come up with a style and look at the results. It was clear after the Penrith game our game plan changed too ‘let’s just hold onto the ball’ and when that’s what your thinking about you inevitably drop the ball. The way we played against Newcastle in the trial and the panthers for 40 minutes looked crisp and exciting. Where’d that go. Change our attack. Go direct but off load and hit holes. The few good tries we have scored this year have been Mau or Takairangi offloads. Time to scrap our attacking game plan and reinvent.
