Now I've been against Russell playing first grade, his had moments, BUT that game against the Broncos was a 5 star performance especially marking up against Stagg. That try he scored may well have be a fluke but still needed to execute it, his defence all game and his running mtrs were outstanding. Maybe he did need 50/60 first grade games as some do to realise they belong in the top grade. Whatever happens his confidence will be sky high, and I for one am happy and cheering for him.

Goodluck to the kid. I'm not convinced though Analyst. That try was superb no doubt about it. I'm wondering if Russell Starting form such a low base has people a bit overjoyed that he finally put in a decent game. That game should be his week to week game not a one off every 3 years.
I checked out his stats "and yes Pops I know stats don't tell the whole story" but they are absolutely nothing fantastic and nothing out of the ordinary. I'm happy for him , but i'm not going to confuse him for a genuine strike centre by any stretch. In all honesty , it's about bloody time he stood up and performed to 1st grade standards.
Most of his stats were behind his centre partner in Penisni. All of them were behind Lomax and Papalii.
Like I said well done Russell, now can you produce that every week as a minimum and get better. Time will tell.
I've said this many a time about Russell ideally I think he's a depth player if he can fill in as your outisde back cover that too me is his high tide as a player.The reason I don't see him as a starter is he's not really good at onething.We had Tom Opacic as a centre and he was an outstanding defensive centre that was his calling card.I think Russell's is his versatility that's why I see him as an ideal depth player.
In saying this if he manages to hold off all comers so be it and good luck to him.
He is similar to what Opacic was for us. Nothing amazing but just solid and reliable. He will have a 10-12 year NRL career as that reasonably priced back in a squad,
I like Russell but im not convinced as a centre more or a winger put Lomax in centre he likes coming in we got him as a centre so put him there
I was speechless after watching him score that try. I've never seen him do anything instinctive like that kick over the top. So until he comes up with similar winning plays, I'll classify yesterday's try as a fluke?
He has some good attributes Russell. He's quick especially over 80m, he has size and makes yardage out of the back. His passing game is improving. His pass for Addo-Carr's try shows he is improving . He is definitely more than a back up. He's only 23 .
Not many backs improveved under the previous coach, so i wouldn't give up on Russell
Yea Russel top speed is actually very good. Just has very poor acceleration

I don't disagree with you Bluey and I don't know his stats, I generally agree with the comment that he is a fine back up player, a centre that would be 3 to 4 in the pecking order.
I didn't agree that Simmo deserved to be dropped, but then again neither did Russell. I am more a Penisini fan and could create an argument he probably should not have started ahead of the other 2. Coaches choice and I am not arguing with him....I assume he has reasons for what he did.
