The Hindmarsh Factor

In Phil Rothfield's blog today he has highlighted the difference between Parramatta playing with and without Nathan Hindmarsh. The most telling statistic is that the Eels have won just 3 of the last 13 matches without Hindmarsh. Rothfield also produces a graph showing how in the three games that Hindmarsh hasn't played, all of our statistics are significantly poorer including the fact that we have conceded an extra 17 points per game. However, given this across just three games the shallacking we copped against the Dragons obvious skews those stats greatly. It would of been more insightful had those stats been measured across the full 13 matches. Regardless, the win-loss record shows that we're simply a better football side with Hindmarsh in the side. I believe one point that should be made in relation to Nathan's form this year has been his offloading ability. While Nathan Cayless is generally regarded as our main offloader, Hindmarsh has actually generally topped the offload count for us over the past 2 months. With his great strength, opposition teams always struggle to bring him to the ground and he's more often than not able to slip a ball out the back. It's been a shift in his attacking game, where he's probably a little slower than he was so doesn't come up with quite the same number of tackle breaks, but instead he's been able to greatly contribute to our attack with his offloads.
