The Gutho, Moses and Arthur debate.

First up, I believe we should resign Gutho straight away. He is our future leader and an inspiration to all on and off the field. I've never seen a player in the blue and gold play with as much heart than he does.

As for Moses and Arthur, I believe we should wait a few more months before offering them contracts. With the team going so well we can all get swept up in the hype but a few good games does not undo how woeful we were last year. Moses is on fire and Brad is doing well so far but they still need to prove themselves to the club and fans with consistency. I really hope they do. I want them to stay.

What does everyone else think?

  • I think Moses will get offered a contract by the broncos pretty soon. They need a half I'd probably try and get him first as based on form he is the most likely to be picked up . There is always going to be a club willing to throw a load of cash at a half as there isn't enough good ones in the comp. Salmon and brown are pretty good prospects though it will be interesting to see what they decide on keeping those three and how much to offer Moses and brown. I wrote Moses off at the start of the year so take my opinion with a pinch of salt.

Arthur looks to have turned it around and he has stated he loves the club and wants to stay so what's the harm in waiting to the review. Stick to the plan I think all things considered (last year's spoon) that is fair on the club and him. There isn't really any good coaches on the market to replace him with him so he is probably the best option.

Guth I like the most but I don't think there is really any club going to offer him 700 it's not that he isn't a good player it's just that I'm sure all clubs would see his knee as a risk. They may offer that much money but I reckon they would have it on a short deal to reduce the risk like 2 years or something like that. I could be wrong but I doubt there is any club who will offer him the whole package of what we can of Captain , 600-650 & fullback , 3 year deal.

    • Yes I think there will be more of a bidding war on Moses than Gutherson to be honest. That’s one of the reasons why I’m just not sure, if we lock in Moses long term, we are also going to be able to offer Brown a competitive long term contract. I hope I’m wrong but their may not be enough left for Brown given I believe he is going to be offered a big money deal by the likes of the Warriors. That’s life though under the cap  and to be fair Brown is still at least 3 or 4 seasons from being the finished article where Moses is probably nearly as good as he is ever going to be. I’d be putting my eggs in the Moses basket too and signing Salmon long term.

  • Noone re signs without knowing who ghe coach will be if aurthur isnt first u wont get moses or gutho unless u pay way overs aurthur needs to be re signed and lets faces it there really isnt a better coach option anyway

  • Sign Gutho and Moses straight away. They are quality. Brad Arthur, i would sign today, as i think he has the best of qualities, but i understand peoples trepidation based on last year.

Moses has been consistant, he is second on the Dally M this year, and last year our pack gave him no room what so ever. Most half backs would have struggled last year with the way our pack was dominated nearly every game, and when we did have space, our centres dropped the ball, or were MIA. Throw in the ragdoll comming out of our own end and Norman spitting his dummy every 10 minutes, its amazing we won a couple of games last year and its more amazing that a half of Mitch's qualities is still considering staying at the Eels.

Its a new year, and we are heading in the right direction. Moses and Gutherson with Brown and Mahoney are our future. They will be the Nuculeus and heart of our team for the next decade, others will come and go, these 4 will be mainstays and the team will be built around them.

    Go Parra

  • The club are all over it. Relax - despite Kent and stupid Crawley wetting themselves, we have it all under control.

    • Throw James Hooper into that mix as well

  • I think Moses will be the one most sort after but in saying that, playing the house down in the final year of your contract and when playing for another contract isn't enough of a reason to suddenly throw silly money at a player. What does need to be taken into account is that Moses played like crap last season, but so did the entire team really and the previous season when he came to the Eels he played well, got us into the finals and has improved his entire game. He is now showing he can be the complete dominant player we need who can slow the game down and build pressure when required, and the also speed the game up and attack a struggling/tiring team. Moses's first half season with us was good, his second was abismal but again the entire team played like that and now his third and final season he is playing his best ever.

Moses has stated he grew up a Parra fan and always wanted to play for the Eels. That now needs to be put to the test but is a dangerous stratergy to take by the Eels but one that can be done as we have a young up and coming half in Brown that we can also build around if Moses doesn't stay. Moses absolutely should be offered a new contract as he has always been a player with immence talent and is now coming into that age (mid ot late twenties) when halves really find themselves and can own a team and a game. The Eels should stick to the offer put forward to him as I believe it is a good one. If he is offered more money elsewhere and it is simply about the money, then he should go and take that money. If he is legit about being a Parra fan and wanting to play here then a good offer is on the table from a team that is on the rise with a new stadium and new players bring new life into the club. I doubt any offer from any other club will be that much better than the Eels offer and if it is, do they have the facilities that the Eels now have and are they a finals contending team? If it turns out to be all about the money and we get completely blow out of the park by another team with a massive offer, then so beit and we will turn our attention to Brown. Ideally, we should lock up both Moses and Brown with good offers but not silly ones as I am sure both players can feel the new vibe around the place and that things are looking very good for the Eels going forward into the next few years. Plenty of young talen coming through that should keep the Eels in the race for the forseeable future and hopefully a junior pathway structure and retention policy that will keep us at the top.

Gutho will also hopefully re-sign as the Eels have put forward a good offer. The same as with Moses, if it is just about the money then he should also move on. The days of the Eels paying overs for any player needs to be left in the past. The offer to Gutho is a good one and he is also a Captain of our team. The Eels are a team on the rise with a state of the art new facility. Can he possibly get better money elsewhere? Maybe but it wouldn't be as a Captain and it wouldn't be at the best and newest ground with club that's future is looking as bright as Parrs's is.

I have supported BA since the begining, well once I initially got over Jason Taylor not getting the coaching job as he was my number one choice at the time. I still support BA and hope he also gets re-signed but am happy for the Eels to wait until June before that occurs. BA's options would be the most limitted out of Moses, Gutho and him and he has stated he is happy to wait until June. BA's tenure has been a mixed bag of highs and lows but he hasn't had the support he should have and now that it seems he is, our club couldn't be going any better. I think it is still a bit early for the club to jump into re-signing him but should we still be travelling well come June then another two year deal with a third in favour of the club should be offered. I am pretty sure that would make him one of, if not the, longest serving coaches in Parra's history.

I hope Parra never make any more deals where a player or coach has another year in their favour. It should always be in the clubs favour and if it means loosing someone because of that, bye felicia. The club should alwasy be the priority and unless this person is an absolute world beater, they can be replaced. The club cannot be replaced, are what's important and are the one footing the bill so why would you let them decide who's favour things should swing too?

If Parra are to be come a dominant club then they need to act like one.

    • Mathew, if you offer BA only 2 + option in clubs favour its not going to keep the club on the road for long, also will make players wary and probably apt to sign elsewhere.  A minimum 3 year deal and a mutual 1 year option that the coach and club can agree with.  End of 3 years though I see BA heading into some other leadership role at the club overseeing the pathways and development players.

Bare in mind though, that no coach is secure in their positions, only have to look at the mules, bunnies, wests coaches also GM's at Penrith and the coaches there to realise that, throw Barrett into the mix Siebold, Flannagan and Hasler they all were under contract to their respective clubs and were turfed out with a bit of cash in the bank to lead them on.

Gutho is the primary #1, it gives him freedom of play on the paddock also not the stress on his knees as in the halves. Our future in the halves is without doubt, well at this point of time anyway is Moses and Brown, but Brown needs likely the full year to get his back right and bulid up the muscle in the back. I don't see Salmon in that sport for long though, he did ok from all reports against wests but he;s not a 6.

  • I dont know my mate gee me up but he told me Gutherson sign with manly to play 5/8 but i think he gee me up i hope

    • I agree Arnie - that it is a Gee up

      Guth is not a 5:8.

      Guthos best interest is fullback

He would be crazy to go anywhere where he is not guaranteed fullback
