Look, I like ryles, and think he will succeed at the eels, but can't help thinking what could have been if we had got him.

He would have not succeeded here with incompetent fks we had running the joint. Ryles would too win a comp at Newcastle due to the players he would be given. Meanwhile Mark O'Neil phone still running off the hook after missing out on 50 players.
What is with the mood swings PF? You go from we should sign this bloke and this bloke and this bloke, to they are useless etc. just cause Newcastle got to a GF? Good on Newcastle, just shows the reality check of what a good coach can do actually.
Our roster has a lack of talent, probably the least amount of talent out of any team in the competition. Holbrook wouldn't have won many more games then Ryles has
Whoever the next CEO is needs to nail the R&R department otherwise we are in trouble

Not quite, Holbrook has more experience, both in the Super League and with the Titans.
Ryles can be, and I think will be, a good coach, but we probably won't see his true potential until his third or fourth season at the top level.
Holbrook could've squeezed one or two more wins this season with pure experience alone but that wouldn't have been enough to make the top 8
To be fair we did sound him out. He just politely told us no . Big part of this being how we finished Arthur after Holbrooks Titans exit. Wounds were still fresh and our administration didn't leave him feeling overly confident . In his shoes you can't blame him, why would a coach come to a club who just axed their coach in the same fashion as he'd just been axed?
Take it or leave it , he was lightly asked and he didn't want any part of our management or how they did business.

Yeah by memory his polite reply was that Uncle Nick had thrown him a lifeline and he owed it to him to repay him. Which is partly true. But it went deeper than that.
Either way , our guys didn't pursue him any harder after he politely dcelined. Hindsight's a wonderful thing, but realisticly they shoud've been knowledgeable enough to know he's a coach with a huge future and pursued harder. He was sitting as an assistant FFS. Totally free and available for an NRL gig.
And we thought Hannay or Ryles were the better options to pursue hard. Why ? Because they were easy.
It is odd though, as yeah to some, the way BA was ousted might not have looked good (personally i felt differently). But with news that Ryles might get an extension before his third year shows as a club we give coaches some time. We at the moment do not seem to have a board that makes coaching changes after 2-3 years. Can be good and bad at the same time.
But Holbrook maybe would have had time had he came to Parra. But then again, Newcastle is an amazing fit. Gold Coast look more foolish as they had him in the building.
How long has Holbrook been at the Knights? Shows with the right people in charge it doesn't have to be a 5 year plan. They have put together a great squad, and are getting the rewards with a good coach. It'd be interesting to see what Ryles has if we can ever assemble a half decent roster
