The (Blue and) Gold and The Not So Beautiful

Yes - it's a soap opera!Let's face it - apart from hearing about the summary of the findings and the mandated penalties, none of us are fully aware of what has transpired or what lies ahead. Consequently, there's plenty of speculation about how the NRL arrived at their findings regarding the Cap, about how they will respond to Eels court action, and about what the court action will achieve. We are speculating because nobody knows exactly what evidence the NRL holds. It also seems likely that the Eels don't know either!Cue dramatic look into the camera. So we lap up the latest news provided by media outlets. What a turn of events this is!The media has come close to exhausting the bash Parra story line. Realistically, what else can they add to it?How can the drama continue? It can do so from story lines about how the investigation was flawed, or how Parra was harshly dealt with, or detailing the actions of people involved in the saga.My comment to this is that we need to be aware that we are simply the audience in this media soap opera. Depending on the story line of the day (to use a WWE analogy) the "heel" one moment, becomes the "face" the next. In other words, the characters in this drama fluctuate from hero to villain on the angle of the story. The very journalists that we abhor one moment for attacking our club might next be the author of an article that we quote to others. We will be deliberately taken on this ride as the journos look to grab our attention. It's not a criticism of them. It's just the way the world turns.Like all of you, I'm on the sideline and can only watch as the saga plays out. However, I do so knowing that I'm going to be fed partial truths. My task, as a fan, is to separate facts from interpretations or spin. With court proceedings underway the whole saga takes on a new twist. That process relies on evidence.Without taking any side, things have become interesting. Should the legal proceedings continue past the current injunction to the point of examining NRL evidence, we may ultimately learn the truth. The Parramatta Eels will need to have documentation to substantiate that they have conducted themselves appropriately.Likewise, the NRL will need to supply much more than the evidence of two disgraced former officials.Of concern to the NRL must be that their own CEO apparently did not follow NRL processes regarding breach notices - something that was the basis of the Eels injunction. Reports that Greenberg was also a friend and confidante of the primary witness and provided advice to him during the breach period is also a major concern. As the decision maker, this must at least constitute a conflict of interest. These and other associations may need to come under the scrutiny of a court. As a fan, I will try to attend to facts. In the meantime I will make the best contribution that I can by supporting the team. They deserve it.#12from15

  • Nailed it again 60's
  • Thanks for the kind words fellas. In truth, my opinions on the entire saga have fluctuated wildly, mainly because of my overriding belief that we shouldn't be going through this, and I need someone to blame. With evidence or the lack thereof likely to emerge at some stage, we will all be better informed. Until such time, the truth is that we just don't know.
    • Well said Sixties. Who knows what the truth is, there's twists and turns every day. He said, they said.....
Maybe the only way the truth will come out is through the courts and if that is the case then so be it.
We all want the truth so we know that our club has been treated fairly.
In the mean time I'll join you and go for #12-15
      Go Parra!
  • The Truth is out there
  • As we can say like Fox Mulder sixties, the truth is out there.......

"De Belin will do a lot of the clean up work, the 3rd man in for our defence. Hopgood is now not alone in that area. He will not be flashy but he will definately do his job."

"positives are Loiero is out. That is a big piece of their middle, he does a lot of clean up work in defence, tightens up the attack. No Katoa and they are umming and arring whether to play Ativalu Lasati or Joe Chan on right edge.
