Thaiaday took $500 grand pay cut to stay at Broncos

Sam Thaiday was quoted in the Courier Mail this week stating that he could have taken offers elsewhere to earn more than$500000 over three years but took a pay cut to stay with the Broncos. Turn the clock back two years and Parra were unable to register Israel Folua's contract as it did not reflect his 'true' value. Shouldn't the Broncos have had to include this money as part of his cap also. What will happen if Hayne earns ten million over the next four years in the NFL and decides to come back and play for Parra on the cheap at the end of his career? Will the NRL make us pay full market value.

  • Good questions
  • Let's get the sheub onto it.
  • We probably couldn't sign Falou due to cap issues and this is the BS that was put forward by the club.
  • These are valid questions. We were treated badly and inequity existed. As Devils advocate, imagine our cap mess if we had signed him! Folau that is. Lol
    • True. Maybe the NRL protected Parra from themselves
  • Forget folau, what about kevin kingston after 2009! Same boat he wanted to take a pay cut to stay with us and was forced out because the NRL saw his true value as more and he was a no name compared to folau..... i think people get their rocks off d*cking us
    • What about brad fittler being paid way under in his last year at the roosters, then being paid 1 mill as a water boy the year after and that 1 mill not counting to the chooks salary cap? Can we not keep that in mind because it was over 5 years ago? Of course you can compare to the days that are past because if you cannot then what can you compare it to? Clubs that can pull bigger TPA's of course can afford to cut player wages because they will make it up somewhere else, thaiday may of taken a cut from the wages of the salary cap but that isn't to say he won't be compensated in another way wink wink nudge nudge. Maybe it is time to make TPA's known to the public so instead of thaiday saying I took a paycut so it doesn't look dodgy to the fans because more then likely he will be paid the same as this year.
    • I forgot about that one. Maybe Parramatta needs to be a bit more outspoken and highlight the inconsistencies.
    • Thank you hkf explains a lot.
  • just $500? Yet he's earning, what, $700,00 plus? What's $500 to him? Pay cut? What a joke. Pay cut to me is something like $80,000 to $100,000 not a poofy $500
