Either BA has been holding him back or Dogs just bought a hooker who gets targeted for his shit defence and has engaged less markers than any 9 since 1908.
I think we'll improve with Hodgson, as long as he stays injury free
Josh is living rent free in Mahoney's head....zoom in to the strapped up wrist.
Haha, what's that about..
If you have prime Mahoney and prime Hodgson, who is the better hooker? I would lean towards Hodgson, more so as i feel he is more creative and a better leader. I think Mahoney has a better work rate and the best pass from dummy half in the NRL, but Hodgson has natural leadership skills, a nice short kicking game and confidence. He is not a confidence player where he messes up then goes into a shell for the remainder of the match.
People will call bias, i would say Mahoney has more upside now as he is only 25 this coming year, but Hodgson in his prime was a world class hooker, cannot say that about Mahoney yet if not at all.
A fit Hodgson is miles ahead of Mahoney. Which Hodgson we get is as big a lucky dip as you'll ever find. But if we get him fresh and can last a seaon he could transform our team into a far better squad than we saw in 2022.
Problem is Hodgson is well past his prime.
That's what they said about Ennis when Canterbury didn't want him. I'll grant Hodgsons injuries are a worry, A big worry actually , but as I said if he can stay on the paddock his leadership alone will be just what the doctor ordered for our squad. But yeah at 33 with his injury history it's Russian roulette
Big if.
Prime Hodgson was compared to Cameron Smith. Mahoney will never reach that level.
