Teamsheet R4: Mortimer back, Keating to bench

Official team announcement from the Eels:

Cayless to reach captaincy milestone

Pirtek Parramatta Eels captain Nathan Cayless will become the first player to captain 200 games for one club this weekend when he leads the Eels against the Cronulla Sharks at Toyota Stadium this Saturday.

In his 239th game for the Parramatta Eels, Cayless becomes the most prolific one-club captain and is on track to break Brad Fittler’s record of 216 games as captain.

Five-eighth Daniel Mortimer returns to the team this week after he missed last week’s loss to the Wests Tigers through illness. He will rejoin Jeff Robson in the halves, while Kris Keating moves back to the bench.

Forward Justin Horo, who made his debut last week, remains on an extended bench.

  • No surprises there, Anderson doesn't like to make wholesale changes and they were probably weren't called for anyway.

I think the changes will be in the team dynamics rather than the team itself.

For example I would bet anything we will see a bit more second receiver from Mateo this week with players in motion off him.
  • I think I would have got KK in at starting half this week. Without sounding over confident, this game is probably the 'safest' to give him a run and show us what he's got.

Robson has been pretty ordinary, his kicking game in particular. It's still early in the season. I don't think we'll get a better opportunity to try KK out and see what options he gives us.

Feel free to contend this suggestion, but for mine he's out performed Robson so far....
  • Couldn't agree more, although I would have gone the step further and made Mortimer half and KK at six.
  • I agree, and I'd be interested to see how KK and DM combine at NRL level after having done well as a halves partnership in the lower grades. As well as Robson defends on the fringes of the ruck, I can see him ably filling the role the Kevin Kingston did for us last season.
  • I feel the same GOGOGROTHE. Was the perfect opportunity to try out that combination. Ando must be trying to get some structure and consistancy out of this team. Looks like he sees Keating as our permanant solution to the hole Kingston left.
  • Agree

Morts and KK in the halves combo with Matt Keating and Robbo as the Hooker combo

I still think we need some impact off the bench - Fui Fui needs to start off the bench as we don't have any impact off there ( no hard running besides Mannah )

Poore is a safety player with Oake ( who shouldn't pass the ball )

And can we please have someone running off Mateo hip....!!
  • What was everyone's thoughts of Horo's debut last week. I know he played in a beaten pasck but he didn't provide me with too much excitement that he'll be able to stand up and be a consistent member of the 1st 17.

I certainly hope that he's not standing at pivot to kick a field goal to win the game for us any time soon. We all know how that will turn out...
  • As expected - but changes could still be made game day

Parra Premiers - what have you got against Grothe?? I cant recall one issue with him this year - i think his defense has been solid. The Tuquiri try last week would have been scored against any winger, it was pinpoint
  • From what i been hearing, Horo has better ball skills then mateo, i'd like to see him get more game time to see if its true, has anyone watched him play for wenty?
  • Mate, whoever has been telling you that has no idea. Firstly, nobody has better ball skills than Mateo and certainly not Horo.
