Teamsheet R3: Moimoi to start in century match

Official team announcement from the club

Pirtek Parramatta Eels enforcer Fuifui Moimoi will celebrate his 100th game in the NRL by returning to the starting side in the Eels’ Round 3 match against Wests Tigers at Sydney Football Stadium this Friday.

However winger Luke Burt, who celebrated his own milestone last week playing his 200th first grade game, will spend up to three weeks on the sideline with a knee injury.

Krisnan Inu comes onto the wing for Burt, with Moimoi taking the place of Justin Poore in the starting side the only other change.

Burt picked up a knee injury in the Eels’ comeback win against Manly and was initially hopeful of playing this weekend but further scans have ruled him out for three matches.

This week the spotlight falls on Moimoi who started his career in 2004 with the Eels, playing four games at an average of 21 minutes per game.  Last season Moimoi did not miss a match and was the highest try-scorer out of the NRL’s props.

Coach Daniel Anderson has watched Moimoi develop from a park footballer in New Zealand and paid tribute to his forward’s achievement.

“It’s great to see Fui has achieved this milestone. I’ve known him since before he made his debut, since he was playing park football in New Zealand,” Anderson explained.

“It’s a credit to his commitment that he’s reached this point in his career and will run out for his 100th match this weekend.”

  • anyone know how humble is going? I thought he was a half or 5/8
  • I think its really interesting to note that half the threads over the off season were people agonising over the ample number of backs that Parramatta have and who was going to miss out.

While it has been Inu thus far, it has not taken long at all for an injury to present itself - thus meaning that Inu is back in.

This is unlikely to be the only time we will be calling up whoever is playing from Wenty either. These things tend to sort themselves out.

P.S. Am so pleased Fui is starting!! :-)
  • Burty's out for 3 weeks, bugger
  • a 350k prop on the bench what a joke but saying that moi moi is the better of the two and he has to sart, PEACE OUT
  • Oh and tahu and inu together i cant wait to see that.
  • Losing Burt is a pretty big blow in my opinion. Hopefully Kris can make the most of this opportunity and play to his potential. I dare say he'll be kicking goals as well, so I hope he's kept up the practice over the off season. When he's hot he can land them from anywhere but when he's cold, he's very average... although I must say, I rate him.

    GO FUI!!
  • Just rewards for Fuifui. I said in another thread that Anderson doesn't like to change a winning side, but he's again proven that he'll pick his side on form and not reputation. I think it comes down to the fact that he has to address the slow-start mentality the side has and putting Fuifui out there from the word go is the best way to do it.
  • I hope Fui isn't just starting because it is his 100th game and will be back to the bench next week. We need him out there from the beginning he gets us going forward from play 1
  • To all the morons out there that were calling for Inu to be traded - here is your wake up call. He has already been needed twice in the first three rounds. And what a high calibre player to be able to call on at centre, wing, fullback, and who can take the kicking duties as well.

Injuries, rep matches, bad form can all strike .. we would be mad to give away an international quality player, and a potent attacking force.
  • Great to see Fui starting. We have really struggled at the start of both matches with our go forward and enthusiasm. Looking forward to see Fui trample over those midget Tigers forwards.

While I am very dispappointed that Luke Burt is out, I'm also intrigued to see how Kris Inu goes on the wing outside Tahu. They had a wonderful relationship on that left hand side in 2007 and Inu hasn't been the same player since. Hoping he can recapture that form now that he is back with Tahu.

The Tigers match at the SFS last season was probably the best of the year. Can't wait for Friday night!!

"Parra hung on to defeat the Roosters 44-36 at Kellyville today.
Only viewed the 2nd half but Leti Samuela a forward was, for mine, our best.
Followed by Hunter, De Stradis and Bamblett and Lorenzo who only played the 2nd half."
