        • Again Tad I think he'll be alright 14 million potential reasons why.

Even if everything goes to crap for him he's secured his future he can disappear into the abyss and not worry about it.I don't think DB worries to much what others think he controls what he can control and in the long run he's won he's hit the lottery.

Tad would you feel humiliated if you won the lottery I know I wouldn't and I could care less what others think about by doing so.That's how I'd approach this situation.

PS he won't be the highest paid player for long some other player will get some earth shattering deal that will beat DBs you can guarantee that.

          • I admire your attitude Coryn. One thing I often look at is stress levels and how people manage that.( Lots of personal experience). I liked the way Ryles handled frustrationse in his viewers box earlier in the season. His emotions were more composed which I liked. I have noticed he has become a little more like Bellamy in his frustrations. Bellamy still comes up with results though. I think the way coaching staff handle stress is a big deal in coaching. It gives players a instinctual model to follow on field which filters through the team. How important is stress management with task composure? Lots of different ways people manage that side of coping.Drugs, Alcohol, anger release, scapegoating and blame, counselling, mental relaxation and task focusing. From your player experience does any of this stuff resonate with you?

            • As a player and in life I don't try to overthink or over complicate situations.

We we're taught this from a coach when I had when I was a teen. Not a footy coach I may add either.

When under duress I want bullet points to think about in a given situation key points so I could still act quickly under pressure with regards to decision making. To much to think about hindered the process.

I to notice the frustration starting to appear with JR also.He was very composed earlier in the season but I think he realises now and is showing that frustration more and more.

He doesn't deserve a potential spoon first time out the teams better than that but reality is starting to sink in here and I think he realises how actually far he has to go.Right now all his apples are on the Moses return if that doesn't work out I fear the worst for the team.

              • That is a great mindset Coryn to have as a coach and how to manage stress and frustrations.Once you lose it you won,t progress and many players may not either. If you don't get that composed mindset you need to be aware of its importance in your own development and seek those skills elsewhere

                • Tad, I think the key to our mind-boggling self-harming errors is group stress. The gameplan can be the best ever on paper, but if it requires everyone to be performing at 100% every time to pull it off, it is not sustainable. Some, most, of our players would need to operate at 110%, especially in attack, to successfully implement the plan...so they try super hard and try to give 110%, but they can't, no-ne can. The minute they mentally kick back a gear from the bleeding edge, to a level they personally can sustain for long periods, they make a stupid error. Because they relaxed a bit mentally. Because they had to. This stupid error at exactly the wrong time/place stresses fuckibg everybody, (us incl) It knocks the mind of teammates out of Ultrahigh Performance Mode for a moment and sends it to an emotional place. Heads drop. Getting mentally back to 100%, and i mean 100%, can take a hot-minute. If you only get back to 90% in 2min, well, these guys are not talented enough to get by on that. So another fucking error it is. Rinse. Repeat.....I think that stress is what's killing Lomax. Making simple stupid errors is a mental problem....The way Riley Smith has conducted himself straight from Flegg makes me think he is mentally strong. He can comfortably operate near his max mental/energy/performance for long periods. Others cannot.

The above does not apply to Dylboob. He cruises and gives few shits

                  • I think your wrong about Lomax, it is not stress or performance anxiety....... its pure unadulterated frustration.

He sees what we see and the frustration is hurting him. That's why he is pushing too hard, yes actually trying to hard.DB did that last year and burnt out, we crucified him, Lomax could head there quickly if we do not identify our proper needs.

He has the eternal understanding of knowing the team has the potential and then realising he cannot personally  achieve that potential on his own. They don't, our fans, do not understand why, basically because they have never been high achievers. You see it in the way they write off the players who left us.

I think you will find that is the real reason Lomax wanted to get out of St George. Somehow BA bullshitted to him something about our enormous potential. Ryles was even a more convincing back up after the event.

The fans on here still have optimism because essentially they are a bit slow on it, the people that know something  about sports and performance like the coach and say players of Lomax's capability are actually waking up to the reality of the problems.

I am amazed how we all of a sudden think we have things covered by a handy junior  or the like. Very good players show up as such, very early, unfortunately we have people here thinking 2 years in Reserve Grade is going to be the arena for them to turn into star's. How many stars have we produced in recent times?

Our great white hope is that Ryles waking up to this and will change the intensity with better players than we currently have, mixed with the juniors that can play now. some of the other teams have kids now at 19/20 going straight into FG. Why because they are good enough, some times you never know till you try them. Ryley Smith is a great example of this....Taitana maybe one of those, we have people saying he may good enough after a couple of years of Cup, that's bullshit, if he still playing in cup in 2 years time, he will not be a star, just a journeyman or a kid with potential stuffed up by Parra.

I am an optimist by nature and I still am optimistic about this team and their coach. BUT I am also a realist that can see we are more likely to fail than say 6 weeks ago when things were turning.

Lets hope Ryles is smart enough to identify these issues and respond accordingly.

PS nothing wrong with De Bellin, a solid forward will only be a positive. The replacement for Dylan Brown is another matter, that 5/8 has got to be a serious player. If Hawkins is going to be your back half  then its very dangerous having him in with a rookie 5/8 if Moses is injured. You need someone of a top level proven player.

ie It could be Doehi but it won't be Joash. I know who it should be but it won't happen.

                    • I thought Luke Garner could have been good for settling things down. Maybe Debellin if the kiddies will listen to someone who looks older than grandad....ok boomer

                  • Well said Randy . Frustration and trying too hard can be an issue. I liked the way Gould did his commentary on Channel 9 when we played the Panthers. He spoke a fair bit about patiently wearing down Parra mentally and physically. They are masters at doing that. Defense , defence, defence can wear down a side which tries everything they can to break down oppositions attack. . That becomes frustrating and attacking sides start taking risks and mistakes start. That further becomes frustrating and it's difficult to get back mental composure and the score lines breakout against you which further compounds the problem.

I have a lot of doubts about the effectiveness of aggressive coach half time speeches as well.. Players are physically and mentally exhausted and are not receptive to further inputs about different tactics etc

I am a strong believer of mindfulness training in as Coryn mentioned in an earlier post. Keep things simple and don't further clutter an overactive noisey emotional mindset.

I think a good example is how composed Ivan and Nathan Cleary are in how quiet their mental energy is. All the mental and physical preparation should be done before game day . Keep the mental energy quiet displined and focused and watch your opposition crumble mentally and physically. The opportunities will come.

You don't need ex factor saviour s . You just need good well prepared players. Panthers " talents" have been slowly drained over the last few years but their systems still keep them very competitive..

Can Ryles think his way in a direction that simply looks for other talented players to replace who we have in our nursery or consider a direction which works for the Panthers so well?

                    • You don't need superstars, but guys who can shape the minds of those around them with their own clarity of thought/action. Trent Merrin really helped the Panthers pack develop, RCG especially, a while ago...and we seemed different with Beau Scott playing. more than just his physical input... Someone to help Luca and Tuaiviti and KitKat and hopgood and Doorey find a way to walk the path Ryles sets. I would have thought Matterson might fill the role...but he just fills roster space. Lane never had it to give...Moses gives us this, but do some of these freshies even recognise the bloke anymore

  • Have we named a full strength side this year?

I'm thinking not one week have we had every player available. FML.

"Randy,  An interesting one.
I suppose coaches trust certain players or believe they're the best fit for the team, even if club form or a high minute count aren't there.
I'd choose you for x-factor even if you only had 5 minutes of form."
