              • Look at how the Storm and Roosters operate. They both scout heavily for juniors regardless of where they are and bring them into their systems. Not always super young either. They're not trying to win Harold Matt's comps for example.  It doesn't matter if their players started as locals.
Take Melbourne as an example. When it was obvious Slater was coming to an end they went out and scouted the best young FB prospects they could find from all over ANZ. Enter Hughes, Drinkwater and Papenhuyzen. After playing reserve grade and coming off the bench in FG, Paps won the FB spot, Hughes became a 7 and Drinkwater left to be a FB at another club. THAT is how you handle succession planning.
Contrast that to what we've done. We tossed Gutho so tried to convince our own local 5/8 product to become a FB. He left us to take up a 5/8 spot elsewhere so now we've thrown all our eggs into the Ionghi basket, gifting him the permanent FB spot without a single game in our colours previously. Boy I sure hope he becomes a rep quality FB. Fingers crossed.
We're not in the same galaxy as the consistently strong clubs. Until we accept that and make those changes we will be destined to remain outside the 8 for many years to come.

                • Storm are the gold standard no doubt, but 4 teams in one spot of western Sydney makes it very difficult to build and retain players. Annoying but that's our situation. Not even Penrith could keep their guys

                  • Riff won 4 going for 5 premierships on the trot they stacked there talent because they are so well setup. In the same area as us doing it the right way and it all started with the off field vision.

Again what suggests to you after watching the last 12 months that we are anywhere close to the mentioned or are going down or laying the platform.

Early days yes but the signs aren't encouraging imo.

                • Muttman, the local 5/8 product we tried to convince to be a FB but he left for another 5/8 spot? Galvin?

              • Understand the problem but you've just basically verified where I'm going. It's why off the field you have to be ahead of the curve innovative how you go about it.If as you correctly say we are all fighting over the same talent why aren't we looking elsewhere spreading our wings.

The last time we did it we ended up with Semi Radradra now your hearing Gus at the Dogs doing academy partnerships with a league side in Fiji and CHCH NZ.Melbourne are looking at the NZ Union 7s program.

                What are we doing ?

            • Teams like storm, broncos, raiders, warriors and manly have their own area and don't have to fight with 3-4 other clubs for players. Especially with juniors

              • Where is the Storms area ?

              • There is no excuses so what if we are competing with other syd clubs there is enough talent for everyone it comes down to wanting it more. Canterbury were run by idiots so they did something about it and hired gould....Parramatta's front office couldn't run a school canteen tough decisions need to be made otherwise it will always be the same mediocre at parra.

                • Nah we did, we hired MON. Case closed. Make some space in the trophy cabinet, its coming boys... we just need patience

            • Exactly

              2001 gf downhill to 2005

2009 gf down hill to 2017

2022 gf down hill to ?

Everytime this club has a good season you can bet we go to shit the next year.
