  • If true I like it. Big Sam has been great and is the future of the forward pack. But a stint in cup as the number 1 prop with big minutes will be good for his development.

With Moses, Lomax and Williams out we need as much experience as we can. Matto was very good in cup last week. Someone with an ego like him would hate playing cup.  Id except a big game from him if he plays.

  • Yep like it. Heat in Darwin requires experience in the middle. Canberra attack through the middle. Tuivaiti has gotten 5 NRL games. Now can take that into Cup and get 50min stints to improve his game.

    • He may not play cup this week. He will still go to Darwin regardless.

      • Maybe as cover for injuries if any before Tomorrow night.

  • Matches up exactly with what I was told about Matto.

Looking forward to having him back in first grade and hopefully puts in a big shift for us off the bench. Having him, Hopgood, Walker and Junior means we have the ability to shift the ball quickly around the middle while still attacking straight.

I'm liking the way they're managing Sam's game time and development. Don't need to push him too hard too early. Should get some bigger minutes starting in Cup.

    • I think JR is also aware that Lane and Kautoga may not be able to play the full 80minutes against the raiders quality forward pack in the humidity of Darwin. So Guymer may need to be used purely on the backrow rotation. So Ryles probably wants Matto as he can play big minutes in the middle too.

      • Lane can if he has to. Kautoga will struggle. But yeah you would rather Matto play 45-55mins in middle than Tuivaiti who could probably only get through 20-25 in a stint.

      • I think Ryles understands the only way they can beat Canberra is moving the bigger more physical pack around.Go wider find Fogarty and Strange work them over then come back down the middle.

The key for me hasn't changed they have to decrease the errors early and just complete and make it a contest and hope Canberra make the errors.

        • With forecasted rain in Darwin too, completions are more crucial. It might be more humid.

    • The whole assumption, even from myself, was he is on the outer. Though i always said Matto is a safe player. Does not do a lot special lately but not a lot wrong either. If anything he was better than Lane last year in a poor team.

Defensively he is sound and adds variety in attack and positionally. Our bench is significantly stronger as Walker, Moretti, Matterson and Guymer. All 4 can play middle and edge. Guymer can fill in at Centre, Walker can fill in anywhere, Matto can go in halves.

"I'd be sticking with Iongi at FB and Galvin for 5/8. We all know his manager is ruthless, and it's clearly just a ploy to get him it of his final contract year.
I'd have Cobbo on the wing, but I prefer Iongi at FB because of his ball playing ability."
