Parramatta will meet with Ryan Matterson's management in the next fortnight as the Eels begin their fight to retain the off-contract back-rower.
AAP has been told up to five other clubs have expressed interest, with Matterson looming as one of the few big-name back-rowers left on the market.
"We're going to have a chat with his manager in the coming week or so," Parramatta's head of football Mark O'Neill said.
"We wanted to give him a bit of time to focus on his footy. He is playing good footy, has a clear mind and is going really well."

Think was always the target to re sign he's at his best to
Sadly Trent, he's always at his best just before putting pen to paper.
That's true Snake, he's been quiet the last two years.
Sigh that's why he's doing so well now, cause he's playing for a contract :(
My concern would be whether he can maintain the level he's at right now for another 3 years.
That and concussion concerns Alex
That's the plan I think Coryn. To rely on young guys like Elie El-Zakhem, Luca Moretti & Ky Rodwell in the long term. I think Matterson is the guy they'll prioritise in the medium term, Nathan Brown may be asked to accept a pay cut and possibly a reduced role.
This is where our cap mangement & roster development is now. We are now in the stage of having to make decisions around who to keep and who to let go, and a lot of that will be informed by who is coming through.
You could be right Brett. Next year Brown comes off the bench and Matto starts at Lock.
Lucky your not signing matto then
I think we should try to hold on to NB if we can, he's still got plenty to offer, but just on less money. If we resign Matto it will be to play him at 13. Rodwell can come off the bench for a couple of years.
