  • And a decent centre. Whilst Russell has definitely improved every time they go wide and he gets the ball it just gets shut down. He offers nothing in attack and never beats his man. 

    • Farnworth and Crichton and then the rest. Not many top quality centres if you think about it.

    • Today whennever Russel got the ball it was man on man. 2v2. Was not his fault at all. Was never any position to put JAC away. Hawkins doesnt dig deep into the line so it doesnt allow Russel to catch the ball on the outside shoulder for an overlap. I thought he was our best player. Brutal in defence against the opposing centre. 

      • He could have done a little to try and at least draw the winger in and JACcsome space 

        • How can he draw in the winger if the winger keeps sliding towards JAC. He keeps running at the opposing winger and the defence will take him into the grandstand. He executed one catch and pass the ony chance he got.

          • It's really quite obvious, make yourself more of a threat and engage more than the one player in front on you 

            • The problem with what your expecting from Russel is you can only get that result due to poor defence. We were versing the Storm so you cannot expect that simple shit to work.

              If its a 2v2 against a good defensive edge, the defensive team should be able to handle the situation because its man on man. The work on the inside is only allowing Russel to get on his opposing centres inside shoulder as well which makes the draw and pass near impossible unless the defenders fuck up. So the centre would have to make a hopeless mistackle or the winger would need to jam like an idiot.

              • Considering how much Russell has improved this year under Ryles as well as having a quality winger next to him, curious to see how he goes moving forward with more time under Ryles

                 

                • That's fair for sure. He certainly has more aggression in his defence and hit ups. He has improved and I think he has made me eat some of my words.

                  However, due to the way Simonsson has been playing this year I would like to see how he goes for 2 to 3 games to end the season.
                  In the 5 and half games he played this year he was averaging over 165 metres, 5 tackle breaks and at least 1 offload per game. He had the errors in his games still but he looked extremely dangerous.

          • Spot on. To help Russell and our attack overall ryles needs to watch some tape on what Brian Smith was doing with the eels back in his days. Like right now defences were sliding,  Smith had the half drift across field with the lock run an outside in line and then the edge forward do the same,  after dumping the ball off to the second runner a few times they would then hit the centre running straight.
