Take Aways from the game

Positive Comments:

No injuries.

  • After the first minute of the game I immediately knew that no matter how good we try to play that we would not win the game. The corruption was pretty clear. But wow we played awful.
  • The sin bin was obviously a horrible decison by the ref
  • The captain challenge was another horrible decison by the ref
  • The number of 6 agains on 4th and 5th tackle just because Grant asked the ref for it was BS.
  • Iongi getting a high tackle and than a crusher but not getting a penalty for it. Than being sent for the HIA was BS too.
  • We lost control of the ruck because we would get pinged for a 6 again the moment we held on for a second. What were the eels meant to do. Two different games were beign reffed. Storm are the one team you CANNOT give loads of possession and a quick ruck too. We have zero match fitness since round 1, so that spine, our errors and refs but it impossible to defend under fatigue. We played 60min with 12 men too.
  • Now enough complaining about the ref.
    • Kelly and Penisni still cant defend 1 on 1 tackles consistently.
    • Pezet is overrated. He is not a 6 and looked good at Storm in theri system. He is slow and a poor defender.
    • Da Silva is a reserve grader. 1 year into a 4 year contract and I may have already given up on him. His service is putrid. He cannot control a ruck even though he didnt miss a tackle. His decison making is poor.
    • Smith had the worst game of his career. Errors, missed tackle, etc. Really hope this was a one off
    • Our bench rotation was completely fucked up because of the Iongi HIA. Our bench was a fullback (Papalii), hooker (TDS) and 2 small forward in Doorey and Walker. They had no chance in competing with Storms elite spine and big forward pack once they got a roll on (plus refs help).

No one is saying we played a great game or were not poor with our handing. We hurt oursleves for sure. But apply all the context. Refs fucking over from the start. The bench we had to use cause of the HIA BS. The countless 6 agains. Try to control the ruck and get pinged. Versing the best spine in the comp with all of that is impossible even if we completed well the refs wouldnt let us win I am certain of it.

              • Storm scored 11-2 tries when they belted us 64-10 in 2019 and then 32-0 later that year: our worst vs that mob. Since 2022, it's been one belting after another: 46–16, 48–16, 56–18, and now 52–4. Lest we forget.

                • Remember HOE a great Melbourne is great for tv deal. No corruption or manipulation here, move on.

                  • Cmon brother.  Do you expect us to be in the contest with that amount of handing errors

People shouldn't be talking about referees or anything else until the team fix up.the total bs we saw on Friday

Wake up to yourselves everyone who thinks corruption cost Parramatta the game.

Archie nailed it. We had zero pride in possession,  so I don't know what games we were playing in pre season training.

        • Exactly. Shame the Lomax court case didn't last longer to bring out some of the NRL stuff

  • Well said

  • as I just hope the boys are embarrassed and ashamed by this performance.
forget the sin bin in the first few minutes, forget the unexplainable 6 agains... bottom line is we had not pride in possession and holding the ball.
When the game wasbeyond  us we didn't try and contain the scoreboard, we made more errors and let it get embarising, we simply had no answers.

    • Archie like you I am embarrassed..... couple of things come home, some I wanted to overlook because I accepted a judgement of people that should know better i.e. Troy Pezit is very slow and has no defensive ability to play 5/8.....may as well give the reigns to Joash now as he offers more as a link and his speed in defence will only enhance the situation of Pezit constantly falling short. God knows what the Broncos are thinkng, knowing they have bought this guy as their half for next year.

Brian Kelly has no read defensively, I thought with his experience he would adjust, he must have thought he was playing a picnic game for Titans they not only ran through him but he also had no hit up ability,

Baily was bloody ill disciplined and I would drop him for that as a lesson. His going to the bin for a professional foul cost us at the worst possible time.

The only forward I would sack is Matt Doory, who showed, yes he can make an impressive break, but really he is not up for the workload of being a "middle forward"in a good team and certainly not in a bad team.

Finally TDS doesn't want to be there and I would satisfy him now by playing him in Reserve Grade (Walker was always the 14 anyway) .........boy I hope we didn't pay anything like he was reputed to be purchased for.

Russell has to go back into the centre's (out Kelly) Richard Penisini come on to his wing, I am not sure who can replace Bailey, probably the young utility forward.

One other thing we really missed JAC for his leadership and organising the backline defence.

What a horrible night and it will be a real challenge to be competitive against Bronco's, they will cut us to pieces with their speed if we put the same team out against them.

      • Troy Pezet played in the late 80s dopey.  Its Jonah Pezet.

What's next, do you really think Moses parted the Red Sea ???

  • Im honestly lost for words

  • Agree on all EA. Storms forwards simple outmuscled us specially by Stefano, who was an Eels junior, but that's another story.

Countless 6 agains drained the guys tank and thus scrambling for defence and committing errors chasing the scoreboard.

Pezet is so much hyped and is useless in defence with Kelly.

if Storms can recruit the quality of forwards and backs that they played tonight, wondering why we can't ? But again, that's another story.

Just hoping that this is just 'birth pains'🤞😊
