- After the first minute of the game I immediately knew that no matter how good we try to play that we would not win the game. The corruption was pretty clear. But wow we played awful.
- The sin bin was obviously a horrible decison by the ref
- The captain challenge was another horrible decison by the ref
- The number of 6 agains on 4th and 5th tackle just because Grant asked the ref for it was BS.
- Iongi getting a high tackle and than a crusher but not getting a penalty for it. Than being sent for the HIA was BS too.
- We lost control of the ruck because we would get pinged for a 6 again the moment we held on for a second. What were the eels meant to do. Two different games were beign reffed. Storm are the one team you CANNOT give loads of possession and a quick ruck too. We have zero match fitness since round 1, so that spine, our errors and refs but it impossible to defend under fatigue. We played 60min with 12 men too.
- Now enough complaining about the ref.
- Kelly and Penisni still cant defend 1 on 1 tackles consistently.
- Pezet is overrated. He is not a 6 and looked good at Storm in theri system. He is slow and a poor defender.
- Da Silva is a reserve grader. 1 year into a 4 year contract and I may have already given up on him. His service is putrid. He cannot control a ruck even though he didnt miss a tackle. His decison making is poor.
- Smith had the worst game of his career. Errors, missed tackle, etc. Really hope this was a one off
- Our bench rotation was completely fucked up because of the Iongi HIA. Our bench was a fullback (Papalii), hooker (TDS) and 2 small forward in Doorey and Walker. They had no chance in competing with Storms elite spine and big forward pack once they got a roll on (plus refs help).
No one is saying we played a great game or were not poor with our handing. We hurt oursleves for sure. But apply all the context. Refs fucking over from the start. The bench we had to use cause of the HIA BS. The countless 6 agains. Try to control the ruck and get pinged. Versing the best spine in the comp with all of that is impossible even if we completed well the refs wouldnt let us win I am certain of it.

Definitely without doubt the refereeing was woeful and I absolutely agree with what you've said in regards to the refereeing decisions. That's one of the worst Eels games I've seen in awhile. Considering how well they played the end of last year and in the trial games this year the team last night looked like a different team. Agree about Pezet and TDS. Riley Smith was way off. They just seemed out of sync. Very very disappointing and next week the Broncos in Brisbane. Might be a very long year but I'm hoping they can turn this all around
We missed Fox with his attack and defence he works with Russell. Russell has always been an average winger, he had his best year in the Centres last year and shouldn't be moved. He needs to return to centre next week and if Fox is injured put Samrani on the wing.
I am like everyone else disappointed with that showing last night. Certainly wasnt the ggeatwest Storm outfit we have faced despite thgem having the big 3 playing. I think we showed a complete lack of resilence and in some areas leadership. I was disappointed with JDB, defensive strong but nothing offered in attack - easy pickings. JP was completely off, no obvious post contact metres, loose carries and no game awareness when it was clear momentum had well and truely swung and s a leader you need to create something to either slow that momentum or disrupt it until we can clear our heads.
I actually thought we handled the Hopgood sin binning ok but disconnected as line and nevr got it back. PEZET, KELLY were beaten in defence multiple times becuase the trust wasnt there. Game time together and repititions at training will help but in the end of the day NRL players must make those tackles .
Ruck destroyed by GRANT and we became so compliant in fear of 6 agains that we just rolled away from the play the ball and sometimes didnt make it to teh feet for marker creating an open channel for Grant or Munster.
Our style of play is perfect if you dont make mistakes. It is is based on the ability to transition from defence to attack quickly and move the ball on tackles 1-3 to gain field position as opposed to hit ups against compressed defensive lines.
Prezet really concerns me to be honest. I havent seen good decisions from him in regards to taking the line on. He is trying to straighten up the attack but becuase he is not digging in or creating space defensive line slides and we either push a ball or throw it out the back to nonone. He is playing like someone too scared to make a mistake but in this team our very success is going to come from trying to create things .
Ruck speed was ordinary. Width of passes from both hookers was putting pressure on the play makers. Not finding MOSES on the last is massive. WE need the ability to drag back field position when we are off our game.
Onwards and upwards. I dont think he makes too many changes. I reckon KELLY swaps with RUSSELL , GYMER for DOOREY and big SAM for Hopgood.
Speaking off Pezet, Lorenzo and Twiddle played in the halves yesterday and were the best 2 players on the park. Lorenzo did overplay his hand a bit which is expected as he is learning. But Twiddle was amazing in essentially everything he did. Best on ground. He is already too good for NSW Cup. Perfect utility. Can play halves or fullback. I recon he would be a good centre too.
Lets hope every forward is banned from offloading for the first half next week. Just have a full set of six and kick to the corner, then defend. Get into the game and then offload and attack.
