David WILLIAMS and Daniel HARRISON have been named as 2 players involved from manly for illegal betting scandal .

It has been reported that David WILLIAMS will not play again this season after 3 years of betting While HARRISON only cops a fine . Today it is also reported that a new recruit from the storm (un named ) is also involved but will only get a fine .

What Rubbish - I say ANY player caught illegally betting regardless of the amount should be de-registered at the very least for the season .

They bring the game into dis-repute and it also brings into question the sandow comment !!!!!!

Refs are giving sides the game , again last night I saw a 1 sided ref display with Qld getting piggy backed all the way to the 70th minute .

In Melbourne the storm have lost 2 penalty counts in 3 seasons , So what does this suggest ?

It means that betting is going on and I for one believe the refs are also involved as too many poor decisions ensure which side wins or loses on the day .

Do you agree or disagree about having 1 rule for illegal betting ? Should all players be suspended immediately ?

Do you agree a fine is justified for bringing the game into disrepute ?

I see illegal betting as equal to the storm cheating the salary cap .

Also what punishment should the club face ? You cannot give a club compensation salary cap when a player like david willims is suspended for the season .

How does David Williams illegal actions affect Manly's SALARY CAP ? Does MANLY still have to pay the contract or does it come off their cap .

That Question should be made public by the NRL to avoid confusion to the rules and policy procedures.

  • Ethan Lowe, slade griffin, hymel hunt and Cody nelson have been suspended for 2 games and wolfman for the rest of the season
  • Wolfman was betting on games in which he was involved, hence he's lengthy suspension.
  • This is a load of hot wind.

What Ryan Tandy did was bad - but that is very different to throwing on the odd multi for a few bucks. Big bloody deal.

Any form of match rigging or fixing - life ban, betting against your own team - same deal. Everything else - who cares. All that said, players just get friends and family to make bets for them. Cannot be policed effectively at all so just leave it.

I'd rather the NRL focus on the unfair scheduling of the comp, the salary cap debacle, teams rorting the cap, fixing the stand alone Origin dilemma, player insurance, shocking refereeing standards, grey and confusing rules, judiciary and match review consistency etc not so much whether player X threw a lazy $5 on a multi that included his team. The code has so many issues that need looking at before going into meltdown because Wolfhead lost a few bucks on the punt!

    • And whether refs or any other official is betting on games.
    • as said they get mates to bet for em - let em - and punish spastics who use there own account

    • Completely agree Will. Useless and pathetic NRL administrators blowing their own trumpets about catching a couple of dumbo's who placed bets in their own names.

Many players would have a harmless bet same as many jockeys do in the racing industry.

  • It may be an insider trading type thing. For instance, what if a coach finds a major floor in their opponent’s defence meaning the chances of his side winning increases. That’s information not available to the public but available to players and they are taking advantage of that for financial gain. Just a thought.
