Perhaps it is just me, but I have felt the passion around State of Origin has been in decline for years now. This is year has been next level snorefest. Next to no media hype, next to no pump up by the NRL. What is going on? These games used to be pumped up for weeks in advance with State-V- State, Cochroaches -V- Canetoads. This has all been minimised, almost to the point of non existent. What is going on? Has the NRL and each States equivalent fallen asleep at the wheel? This is not the hyped event that it once was. What is going on? Does anyone else feel the same.? This series was always a spectacle. I hope the game delivers, but personally I think the promotion of the series thus far has been appalling. Next to no hype or excitement.

When it was truly state vs state, mate vs mate it was brilliant.
These days, it's no different than a standard NRL game.
If I have nothing better to do, I might watch it but I won't go out of my way to watch it.
Yep they've watered down the entire SOO game tbh, so much so, that I wouldn't be surprised to see it turn into a touch footy series within 10 years.
The whole spectacle of origin has lost its aura since they banned the biff and then shoulder charge. Its lost its soul IMO and there's no way back.
I agree. I think since 2006 and that to be fair great qld team the real interest around origin for me has wained. Further as the game has become more professional and players move from team to team for the best financial deal the whole idea of mate V mate and state V state is over in many ways.
Further (just an observation and not being racist) the NSW team would not have the same connection to the jersey the Qld players have....we have a much more cosmpoliton/migrant population in NSW and QLD just dont. So why would a player bleed for the blues when they want to bleed for Tonga, Samoa or Fiji which has hugely more importance to them and their family.
For the individual players of each state I don't think either side has more pride but when it comes to fans, qld definitely love it more. Young footy players from NSW dream about playing for NSW just as much as qld kids dream of playing for ql
Queensland has 8 players born outside qld this year many from NZ but they still bleed maroon as many say so I don't believe that is the issue.
But they have a qld complex up here. They consider themselves queenslander before Australian. They count qld medals instead of Aussie medals at the Olympics, if a sports star wins a world championship if they are from qld they don't celebrate an Aussie on the world stage they celebrate a queenslander on the world stage and that is why their fans are so passionate.
Yeah they definitely have an inferiority complex. They feel that to be counted with the likes of NSW they need to be better than NSW at times. Victoria is similar, though not as bad. I can't say that NSW has this in any way, and that is probably the difference. If we lose SOO we are upset, but we know it's not the end of the world and we move on.
I have felt it has been a waste of time for years and usually go to bed at halftime. It's just another game these days.
$$$ from the TV rights.
The last time I had any interest in Origin was the 2014 series. Since then it's been watered down so much i don't even watch it, apart from the games that Moses has played in.
I'm supporting Qld tonight because Hoppy is playing for them~!
12 months ago I was in Bali for the first game of the Origin Series, the restaurants and Bars were all overcrowded with people from all over Australia having a team, lots of WA's over there and even the internationals were into it.The emotion, shouting and cheering was amazing. This is great exposure for the game, don't write it off through small mindedness.
Last time I watched a State of Origin game was 2016. I see the highlights and all that but I'm not really bothered. I do a preview for my channel (Mainly because you get lots of views) and as a neutral I guess I am not biased.
State of Origin to me isn't really the same like it was a long time ago. Its become more like a travelling circus with games being played in Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne etc and with player eligibility. It went from where you are born or grew up to where you play your first rugby. So you could be some New Zealander who was born there, grew up there but never played the game before, then you move to Brisbane aged 16, play for a local team there and all of a sudden you are a fully fledged Queenslander, Ha Way Man!
perhaps it is you EE , perhaps for some pass there snorefest beddy time lol , I mean just look at previous years for state of origin TV ratings/ audience, advertisements etc speaks for itself. besides hoping our man hopgood has a blinder of a game tonight ( unscathed )
