St George Illawarra have landed a huge recruitment scalp by securing Australian star Keaon Koloamatangi to a long term near $5 million deal.
It is understood that Koloamatangi has told the Dragons he will join the club from 2027 on a five year deal. The contract is now in the cooling off period.
It is a clear circuit breaker for the Dragons who were in the market for a marquee player.
Koloamatangi’s current club South Sydney wanted to secure him as did Parramatta.
The Dragons though look set to land the prized recruit after gazumping the Eels and Rabbitohs with a monster five year deal

Though I will say Fong, when I spoke to my mate who works with James Galvin, they said James and Lachy found Ryles to be very well spoken and impressed with what he offered. When I asked about MON he said they said nothing about him just Ryles. Said they felt Parra are in great hands with Ryles.
It was Vella and Ciraldo and Dogs good year that got him there.
I've heard the same.I had a coffee with Blair Mills at the hurricanes training base and he spoke of JR very highly even thought Nathan Brown behind the scenes around pathways was very clued up in that area but you wouldn't let the latter near FG to old school and thinks the players wouldn't respond well to him.
So Brown is basically there as a sounding board for Ryles mainly? Not really coaching too much.
Correct more so in the development and bringing players through is where he thought Brown definitely adds value.
TCT do say he works with spine from time to time as well. But Brown was adamant a few years ago he did not want to coach again, more so work with younger coaches, helping them and juniors. Seems he is doing exactly that at Parramatta?
Would it be a surprise if after 2026 Brown goes into a pathways role and Ryles gets a new assistant?
Who knows it's a possibility I guess but the next couple of seasons in my view are all about positioning so they can put there best foot foward.
Theres a fair bit of work to do behind the scenes I've been told so my expectations aren't high for the next season or 2.As long as we see improvement and more real quality depth added I think that's got to be our starting point roster wise.
Coaching I think it's more so about relationships and who JR feels comfortable with.
Ever consider the possibility that he went to Souths because he has mates from Souths there like Damien Cook and Gutho would have whispered in his ear about how Parra did the dirty on him. Nothing to do with Ryles and Flannagan in my opinion. More about 💰💰💰 and extra years deal and friends from Souths. There are currently 4 ex first grade souths players at the Dragons
Was it that Flanno would play him on an edge instead of middle?
Throw the money on Tino and bring his leadership to the young pack for fuck sales Ryles.
Tino is overrated
