St George Illawarra have landed a huge recruitment scalp by securing Australian star Keaon Koloamatangi to a long term near $5 million deal.

It is understood that Koloamatangi has told the Dragons he will join the club from 2027 on a five year deal. The contract is now in the cooling off period.

It is a clear circuit breaker for the Dragons who were in the market for a marquee player.

Koloamatangi’s current club South Sydney wanted to secure him as did Parramatta.

The Dragons though look set to land the prized recruit after gazumping the Eels and Rabbitohs with a monster five year deal

      • I think MON made the right call and apparently so do you. Glad we didn't offer any more time or money.

    • Eli love the silver lining mate with every one we fail at lol.

Dont worry i try and do the same.

But far out we have been shocking at getting a big fish lol

      Tino helicopter here we go.

      • Realistically what does Keon going to dragons actually do for them but ? It's a big name but they don't have anything around it. Pretty happy with what Ryles is building. If guys don't want to join that's on them

        • That's what makes this look even worse for the eels, there is no upside for keon going to dragons apart from money and length of contract.  This is another massive fail by mon and our recruitment team, i could understand if we missed out to souths but not the dragons.  Surely the club can see mon isn't getting the job done and has to go tomorrow.

          • He obviously values money over winning then 😂 eels offered 4 years 4 million he wanted more. Probably just not the guy you want at the club then

            • HKF, If you think MON was the decider in this, your very naive. The decision would have been made by Ryles. When it got down th the "nitty gritty" Ryles would be doing the talking!

              • Oh stop it poppa, your continued defence of mon is laughable.

If true and mon has no responsibility for all the dodgy contracts with player options, all the juniors that have left and all the signings we have missed what is he here for?, he is either incompetent or redundant,  either way he should be gone.

                • Well he still there HKF, presumably for all the reasons that makes me laughable.

Dodgy contracts with player options have subsequently been proven to be right through the succesful clubs. Do you think MON would be smart enough to have invented dodgy options?

If he is incompetent or redundant as you say then we have a lot more trouble than MON, who keeps him on and why has Ryles not cleaned it up? I have always said he is badly titled. He is a coordinator not a negotiator.

Do you think that if Ryles had a reason of Mons fcuking up recruitment that he would still be there ? It effects Ryles at the most significant of levels.

Effectivey and its on the record from Saratinos that they give Ryles full authority to do what ever is needed. Mons does the leg work, Ryles does the decision making.

PS All the juniors that left. Who are they that they have comeon because we stuffed up their resigning..... Talagi, Sanders, Utoikamanu......getting a bit thin? Would you like to have Galvin.....did MON lose us Brown and Lomax?  BA only left 18 months ago, do you think he was an influence?

                  • It will come, Ryles is very green and his jobs safe .  It took BA years to finally challenge MON and once he did it became a Cleary vs Gould scenario. BA almost won the battle , MON was attempting to go back to the Tigers as when we were winning BA was always going to win that war. But as soon as we had the Dylboobgate and the extended Moses injury's after that anchoring us to the anus of the ladder , MON got BAs scalp.

MON ultimately is still Ryles's boss.

                    • Not in any practical sense.
