WOULDNT IT JUST BE A DREAM COME TRUE IF HE WAS OUR COACH!....BUT I DOUBT IT :(

With his services in demand more now than ever, Wayne Bennett may decide his future when he returns home to his family in Brisbane at the end of the season.

The St George Illawarra coach, who turns 61 in January, said he was shelving any thoughts at the moment about his next career move given the Dragons are favourites to win the premiership for the first time since 1979.

The minor premiers open their finals campaign against a suspension and injury-riddled Manly at WIN Jubilee Oval on Sunday.

"I'm committed here until 2011 and I'll go home in October or November and give it some thought," Bennett said.

"At the moment, it's not even a thought process for me.

"My thought process is the next month, do the best we can, and after that I'll go home back to Brisbane and I'll give some thought as to what I'm going to do.

"But I will be definitely be back here next year - I'll tell you that much."

It is understood the coaching job at the Dragons is his for as long as he wants it but there has been plenty of speculation recently linking Bennett to a return to Queensland.

The fact Brisbane Broncos have failed to make the finals series for the first time since 1991 has heaped pressure on Bennett's successor, Ivan Henjak.

There have been rumours Henjak has lost the support of the dressing-room and Bennett could return to the club he guided to six premierships during his two decades there.

North Queensland Cowboys could be another option given they courted Bennett before he signed with the Dragons and incumbent Neil Henry is under pressure after another disappointing season.

Regardless of what decision he makes, Bennett said he had enjoyed his time at the Dragons and the club had allowed him to juggle his work commitments in Sydney with his family time in Brisbane.

  • I know he is the #1 coach but IMO he has been and still is the enemy's coach and I just wouldn't like him at our club(even if he did win us a GF) Bennett is a qlder, bronco and now dragon.....Yuckkk!!!!! no thanks.....He is not a new south welshman, and definately doesn't have a blue & gold heart!
  • if he was our coach we would play boring footy.
