SMH: League Immortal Andrew Johns apologises for 'disgraceful' behaviour at Toowoomba airport

League legend Andrew Johns has apologised to a woman who accused him of "disgusting, disgraceful" behaviour while heavily drunk at an airport in Queensland.

Johns was photographed lying on the floor at Toowoomba's Wellcamp airport on Friday night after allegedly propositioning the married woman, who labelled Johns' behaviour "a very bad example".

"Andrew Johns was absolutely disgraceful," Helen Wright posted in a Facebook message to Channel Nine's Today Show on Saturday morning.

"He was severely intoxicated. I am a 42 year old woman that he asked to kiss him. When I refused to kiss him and replied I was happily married and had three sons, his question to me was 'did you have a cesarean birth?'

"Disgusting, disgraceful and a very bad example for all to see. Then he proceeded to pass out on the floor of the airport. Many people were not impressed with his behaviour."

Mrs Wright said Nine, Johns' employer, "should be ashamed" of the former Blues halfback's behaviour. She claimed a witness suggested she post the photo and description of her experience on social media.

"I wish that football commentators [had] more pride and a much higher standard of behaviour in public," she wrote in the post.

"This is not an example that should be presented to children that were present! Many of the children had taken photos of him passed out. My own sons have played football all their lives and we love the game. But not this aspect of the game. Regards Helen Wright."

Johns has recently been romantically linked with Hollywood producer Satsuki Mitchell, the former partner of James Bond star Daniel Craig.

Nine did not wish to comment on the incident. However, it is understood Johns apologised directly to the Wright family and it was accepted. Fairfax Media tried to contact Mrs Wright. The post was later removed from Facebook.

Johns was named the game's eighth Immortal in 2012 ahead of contenders Norm Provan, Ron Coote and Mal Meninga. Johns' on-field achievements were never in doubt. However, his elevation was met coolly by some, who felt his behaviour off the field did not live up to the title.

Johns dropped a bombshell in his biography, admitting to frequent drug and alcohol abuse throughout his career.

"I feel like the game's forgiven me," he said upon being named an Immortal.

"I'd love to go back and change some things but unfortunately you can't do that.

"They were hard times but they shape the person you are. We all make mistakes, don't we."

The post on Facebook on Saturday received thousands of responses. The most popular comment was "1 word. Legend".

  We can't be sure that the woman was the one who took the photo. Apparently a lot of people did.it doesn't matter anyway. I like joey but the whole why does she have the right social media thing is stupid. Joey dos the wrong thing... The whole argument about social media makes the idiots out there start rolling the woman... Who is not the story or at fault here

This should be sackable IMO. If all legit. Didn't Beau Ryan get moved off channel 9 for an affair? How is this behaviour any better...? Johns is a jerk, and if he said that to my lady I'd knock his block off...and no doubt his mates will come out and say he's suffering something or rather...

I'm not defending Johns, but this is where social media goes to far. What right does that woman have in taking a picture and posting it on the net.

I wonder how Sterlo will react tomorrow while working with him.
