Should we go after JWH?

No idea if we have any cap space left after nabbing RCG but surely the Roosters must be feeling the pinch on their cap after so much recent success. Player managers will be demanding their clients get upgrades and the Roosters will soon find it difficult to retain all their stars. If we approach them and arrange a deal to take JWH, assuming they'd be willing to let him go, do you think we should go for it? His acquisition would suddenly thrust us into premiership contention with him, Fergo, and Jennings all boasting big match experience to lead us forward when things get serious. He'd also finally give our pack that much needed aggression that Timmy just couldn't quite offer us bless him.

Thoughts?

  • He'd be a great addition but do we have the minimum 800K he'll probably demand seeming it might be his last big contract?

The only players in recent memory the Roosters lost were RTS and SBW.

    • They agreed to give us Jennings to relieve cap space. There is a precedent here that could once again favour us.

      • Yes but they also had Latrell and Manu coming through (both centres) and Jenko who was past his best (although still a good player) had to go. We paid crazy money for Jenko. The Roosters didn't need him ultimately.

2016 was a disaster for them with Pearce suspended for 2 months, RTS, SBW, Jenko had gone, Cordner and JWH missed half the season. They bounced back pretty quickly in 2017.

    • So this is just a wish?  Brilliant ! Our problems  are solved.

  • With the Eels record at the judiciary the bloke would only play 3 games a year .

      • Totally agree.  He plays with aggression which is needed, however he also sails too close to the wind in many of his games though, he's still contracted to the chooks next year and to leave there he would need a fair loading on him from the chooks which they might pay, but how many years would he want to sign for?

I actually would believe any suspension next year will see him miss too many games for him to be any real value
        Have a look here https://www.bing.com/news/search?q=Jared+Waerea-Hargreaves+Judiciar...

He has played 221 games with 52 penalties against his name so far, turning 31 before next season, too big a risk for me, as I doubt he will play enough games to provide value for money.

  • No. We ve got enough props

  • Great player but I think he has peaked now. The constant threat of 6 weeks suspension or more must weigh heavily on him and the club he plays for.  I think with RCG and junior /Evans we are competitive . The edge runner is the crown in the jewels for us.  We need to get that dynamic runner who can dominate ...  that lifts us from 5-8 to 1-4 easily and creates space for this backline which I believe is one of the best in the competition...

    • I agree with that PT. He is a risk, as Colin points out he is nearing the end of his career.

There would be a sugar hit initially but it would not last. Next year we will have Development players coming through into NRL and behind them Hollis and Hughes.

As was pointed out yesterday the club is in a really good place for Middles. I don’t think that JWH would be high on the agenda.
