  • We were never a chance with his dad being a club legend.

  • Offer 5m with a sign on of 2m as part of the 5m deal, I.e. he gets 5m for 5 years but 2m of that is up front,

Why, .......its the best time of his life as a football player. Within the next 5 years it will be seen to be a good deal and allows us to be competitive up front, as we have the money now to pay the 2m, the last 4 years will be 750 per year, and will not strangle us at the back end.

Money is fully repayable if he wants to break the contract on a mutual basis.

It can also allow us to be competitive with retention of our juniors.

We must not give up because Titans have used big numbers. If he decides he doesn't want to come, then so be it, but make him think!

    • So in his first year we use 3 million of our cap for one player ? You want to crunch these numbers ?  Who's covering his tax penalties for year one ?

      • Don't bother uncle the old fart has lost his marbles

        • I'm surprised at you Wiz, I though you would have some understanding of economic management.

Starters is 2m for year one 750k for years 2.3, 4 & 5......now the first number is 2 the next 4 numbers are 750k = 3 mill..... total 5m. Tax management is up to how his accountants want to structure such payments based on all his personal factors. I would look at structuring Super based on his professional expected lifetime as a professional footballer, I would look at Insurance bonds that give him a tax free structure at the completion of 10 years i.e his life as a professional footballer would be over but he will have a tax free environment on those proceeds when they mature.....I am only touching the sides but your negativity is only compounded by lack of even understanding a conception.

Finally the idea of offering something a little unique to what he maybe seeing elsewhere is where I am coming from....nothing more....of course your positive disendorsement of such ideas goes a long way to helping any process!!

          • 💯 that's it Pops we go to get creative around how and how much.

I like it contract structure is huge in salary cap sports especially the NFL.Different of course but the more creative we can get within a current rules structure the better off we'll be.

          • Not keen on Cambell, but like your concept of trying a different approach.

          • Ok so I misread your post , I assumed you'd said offer him 2 " upfront " before his salary for year 1 , in sales terms that's usually how an " upfront " payment works.  It's a signing on bonus.

So what's the incentive for him ?  Getting more early and less later ?  You've offered 100k a year more than the GC for him to move to Western Sydney lol.  Hence why I assumed the 2 mil was a kicker .  Yeah that'll surely convince him 😂.  You'll be needing to do better than that Mark O Neill.

            • Well the idea was to be different and make him think....as against the vanilla most dollars exercise.

Lateral thinking is not something that you are actually accustomed to Wiz, that is why you are such a negative prick in your approach to just about everything.

PS that extra $1oo a year is 1/2 million over 5 years, the leverage of receiving up front payments can make that considerably more in a carefully designed structure.

    • Add a free hold house to the equation that he doesn't take ownership of until his contract is done.

"Bup, pragmatic and wise. I hope a few of those "surprises" go our way. Pezet was good value by all reports, so we might have some powder dry. Thanks mate."

Super — the "bridging player" idea is an excellent description. It slipped my mind, but I will probably add that in later giving you credit."
