  • Link is behind a paywall, I'm sure there's a way to get around it.

    • Bazza who wrote the article?

      • Don't know bro, won't let me get that far.

        • All good, if this was remotely true then I'd expect SMH to report it - DT love an eels made up story

          • Analyst, get off your cheap arse and buy a "paper" Peter Badel wrote the article in the Courier Mail.

Personally I am not surprised, it was a fair punt, just about every club in the comp has had a crack at getting Bellamey. Implications are that Matt Trip said there are a lot of clubs that have offered more than they can pay but Bellamey wants to stay in Melbourne,

Now there's your answer, nobody pays more than Trip in kind! and nobody stays in Melb if they can get out unless they are promised something big.

For your interest the offer was 4 years i.e. 2.5m per year. Bellamey is assumed to be on close to 2m currently, he attended an initial interview, presumably a polite reply to the offer, he was not interviewed as an applicant....understandably so, my guess it was more along the lines of what would you want and how much? The assumed response was a polite "not really interested" in moving from Melb but thanks for your interest.

I am sure our resident Wizard will be able to turn that into another "rejection".

Most big name coaches are only going to come to Parra if their ego is challenged by the task. Bennett was interested from that perspective, but notorously leaves no legacy. My further guess is that Bellamey knows it was a rebuild and it would not happen overnight and he has no systems that he can bring, they are handled by the Ponissi's of this world. Ponnissi would be the guy I would have offered the $10m too, we could get any coach he wanted after that!

            • Ahhhh good ole Matt Trip, wonder how much investments he's given Bellamy.

            • Peter Badel another hack... NEXT! Fair punt you say I disagree, it's like you pops asking Rosie O'Donnell on a romantic date she would just flat out say no! Lol

            • Oh no, it wasn't a rejection at all ....... 🥴

Of course it was a rejection,  who wouldn't reject us in that story.  We just punted the coach after telling him we'd keep him in the loop, and then claimed to have been secretly courting Bennett at the same time.  Only a fucking moron or a desperado would even consider taking up our offer .  Remember at the time I said how we should've approached the Bellamy scenario. Clubs like us just can't land guys like him without a proper structured plan of attack. Guys like Rusty land guys like Bellamy and Bennett because they're smart and tactical businesman .

Non compete has a high legal threshold so it's really hard to enforce. So these rules may be impotent. But they're definitely not illegal.
At best these rules act as a deterrent. At…"

"The NRL can set its own rules. However it can't stop players signing with R360. That would be a restraint of trade. But the NRL is within its legal rights to determine who it registers and who it does not. So by all means sign with R360, but the NRL…"
