Sonny Bill's All Blacks tilt fading away
AAP August 19, 2010, 9:43 am
Time is running out for Sonny Bill Williams to prove his All Blacks credentials after injury ruled him out of another provincial match for Canterbury.
Former rugby league star Williams' name was missing from the side named on Thursday to play Tasman in Nelson on Saturday, once again due to a tight hamstring.
Apart from 50 minutes with club side Belfast two weeks ago, Williams hasn't played since arriving in New Zealand last month.
He was recovering from minor knee surgery when he moved from Australia and then suffered the hamstring strain while playing for Belfast.
Williams, 24, gave up a lucrative contract with French club Toulon to chase a goal of playing for the All Blacks but his odds of being selected for the season-ending tour will reduce with every game that he misses.
The tour begins with a Test against Australia in Hong Kong on October 30.
He didn't train with the team this week, instead focusing on his own recuperation.
Mundine ...... Hmmmmmmmm. That was always my biggest fear when Smith was coaching. That he'd make some ridiculous offer to get that FOOL to Parra. That would have done it for me.
Just as in league, he spends most of his time earning dollars on the sidelines. He is so injury prone.
Hey remember that semi final when he tried to smash Hindy and come off second best and broke his arm? I bet he will never forget the time he met Hindy one on one. Oh sweet memories.....
Yeah I do because Choc is a very good
mate and so is SBW. I hate it with a vengence when people bag these two guys when they know NOTHING about both of them. So please move on and leave them both alone. Cheers Al.
"I think thats the problem. He is too good for NSW cup so we are trying to jut fit him into the NRL team somehow . But in reality he is not a 6 or a 9. Just a fullback right now. During the recent pre-season Papalii only spent time training with…"
"The chances of him being our 6 next year are very low, if he was a serious consideration he would be playing 6 now with dylan at centre. I'll be very surprised if he is our starting 6 next season unless he gets a lot more time there this season. "
"I think Joash is a good player, but from what I've seen only at fullback or on the wing. Those positions we've got pretty well covered, so I guess he's a great back up option. I'd like to see him in 1st grade, but I dont know how he fits in?"
