Saturday News

I never buy the Daily Telegraph, but being in need of some toilet paper, I compromised today and bought a copy.

I found two articles on Rugby League with some good points. The first was an assessment of all teams on how they progressed in the pre-season over the summer. All teams were given a rating from A to whatever. The Roosters took out last place with a rating of an F ! No surprise there. A large photograph of M Pearce says it all. Coming second last was the Roosters great rivals South Sydney with a an E rating! The blow up between Russell Crow and Luke Keary at Crow`s property, which the report says almost came to blows, sunk Souths to second last.

The Eels got a B rating. Would have been an A if not for the 4 points hanging over our heads from the NRL and the Hopoate case. We face a payout if we lose the case. That money will go to our salary cap--meaning we may have to shed some players.

Overall it is a good read demonstrating the superiority of a realist approach, with its inherent ironic and sardonic humour, over the manufactured optomistic species.

The other article,I feel, had one good point. It is by Rebecca Wilson ,who is not liked by most. She is directing it at Mitchell Pearce and recommending that he be sacked. She writes: "This could be the wake-up call that saves your life". Franky Fong said that, off the turps,  Pearce is a rather sensitive person. Wilson could be on to something there.

  • Rebecca Wilson needs to learn how to cook, clean, iron, sew and look after her man or women. I don't like her, I can't respect her, she makes no sense most of the time and I can't cop a rugby league opinion coming from a useless red head when we have literally thousands of men who have played the game and can comment from an players prospective.

If a want an opinion on netball, I'll ask a women, as for rugby league, I'll cop an opinion from those who have been in the trenches.

    • Ridiculous comment!

Rebecca Wilson provides enough fodder for criticism without resorting to adolescent gender stereotypes.

    • Joe i agree with you mate i know Bec, our dogs play together sometimes, shes got NFI about RL, no idea about sport but she thrives off the social dramas that sport delivers, shes not a bad person to talk to but shes a shit house journo.

    • Snakie son, u hit the nail on the head, Wilson only looks for the gutter journolism sport brings, the negative biased views on events. And what Joseph says is right, respect views on the ones that have been in the trenches etc.
    • Joe you forgot about being pregnant and barefoot!

    • Haha Joe yeah she is pretty crap, but I bet you'd still bang her after a box of beers - you may even ask for her opinion then.

  •  What stereo types? Rebecca Wilson is the original token female, rugby league reporter.

Name a female first grade rugby league player and I'll respect her comments on the game.

Wilson's opinion is as valid as any opinion from anyone who has never played the game at the highest level, no more or less.

I don't value Ray Hadley's or Ray Warren's opinion on the game either, there's another two over opinionated, under qualified try hard wanna be's commenting on a game, with conviction, and no background.

My comments are not based on whether you have a penis or a virgina.

I'd rather listen to a war veteran about war rather than an historian who has never been on the front line who thinks his or her opinion is worth respecting because they happen to have a profile or literacy skills.

    • Joe i couldnt agree more with you mate, spot on.

    • Come on mate, don't be silly.

Just because females haven't played first grade rugby league, doesn't disqualify them from having a valid opinion on the game.

Did you play first grade? How many on this forum played first grade?

If that's your standard, I imagine there's only maybe 1 or 2 contributors to this forum whose opinions, "you'd respect".

      Pull your head in.

P.S. I would generally agree with you regarding Rebecca Wilson - she's a peddler of gutter journalism - but she's right on this issue.

P.P.S I would listen to an historian AND a war veteran - they would both have something of which to inform me.

      • I come here to share the highs and lows of supporting the Eels with like minded members.

I do highly value the opinions of contributors on this, contributors here are not commenting from the perspective of an expert or an authority on our great game.

Contributors on this site are not looking to influence a wider audience. I enjoy reading the diverse thoughts of members, I find a fan's take on the game and our club entertaining.

Wilson has never entered a dressing room, she's has no idea what it's like to be a young man with a public profile, making a ton of money, hanging out with other high profile players, having the media, fans and women chasing them where ever they go.

These guys are caught between being a role model and being typical young men.

Many a player has been through what Pearce is facing now, I'd rather listen to the likes of Fittler, Geyer or any other player who has faced the same pressures, made the same mistakes and came out the other end with successful career.

Instead we have the likes of Wilson polluting the media trying to be the hard bitch, jamming her unwanted, uneducated opinion where it's not needed or wanted.

She's not the only annoying women involved in men's sport, what's with Lara Pitt? Another blonde bimbo reading yesterdays news from a card to ex footballers who have to fake being interested.

And Erin Molan, like Pitt, another bimbo with no background in sports whatsoever making shallow observations about rugby league to millions of viewers.

These women present themselves as experts in a sport they barely understand.

Yvonne Sampson does an excellent job, she's by far the most professional female in sports presenting, she grew up following rugby league and cricket.

Despite her sporting knowledge, Yvonne keeps her opinions to herself, she drives the commentating team with precision. When an expert opinion is needed, she turns to Lewis or Lockyer to comment on the game.

She knows her place and it's obvious that she has the most respect from her male colleagues.
