Sam Burgess

Should Parra make a play for Sam to bring him back to NRL after England's disastrous WC campaign?

What were they thinking of putting the world's best NRL forward (by a country mile) in the centres where he was far from impressive? I am sure his confidence would be down with his foray with yawnion.

We could clear the decks by getting rid of some of the marginal forwards (if possible), TPAs and using the NRL marquee player funds.

  • No we shouldn't.

As for playing centre he is the right size for a RU #12 (inside centre) and playing forwards in RU is totally different to RL.

Probably thought that he'd turn out to be another SBW.

IMO Burgess is either a 12 or maybe a blindside flanker (6) in RU. I would play him at 6 to hide his piss poor defensive reads as RU players run totally different attacking lines than they do against the structures employed in RL.

    • hes 6'4 and 115kg...hes a monster and always a forward. has no touch to be a back.

he should be playing number 8 in union

  • What makes you think we could afford him?
    • Still need a top 25! Can't just have a top 17 lol
  • With what money????? Bring SBW and Hayne back as well. Dreamer
    • Does anyone on here think outside the square, what about this. Now Watmough doesn't appear to be sharpest tool in shed and I wonder way he is playing until 35? Is it because he knows nothing else and to be paid what he is you have to be high executive in large business. I can't imagine he enjoys getting injured every year as he is a small man playing in a big man's game. Get him to retire and become forwards coach, at contract amount, or maybe even less, for next 3 years. Coaches salary are not part of salary cap to my knowledge, and that immediately would free up probably $500k, plus TPA and NRL marquee payment (or whatever it is called), I would estimate easily $700k. Took me exactly 30 seconds to think of that!

Cannot imagine Sam enjoying playing yarnion where he likes to get involved, especially with England, as only the forwards play and the backs wear jumpers to stop getting cold.

    • 30 seconds of wasted time. The only player i want back is Hayne. If Souths are assisted with Burgess. We cant be denied Hayne if he returns.
    • I concede that Sammy is a gr8t player. But we have no chance of getting him
  • we would have to release half of our roster - there is NO way Parra can afford him.

    • Naaah - I'm sure the NRL would let us sign him well under market value..... I mean, they helped us sign Izzy, after all....
