SALARY CAP WHAT A JOKE

Well with the eels facing a possible points deduction because of salary cap breaches its about time the NRL looked at themselves and what a messy cap system they have created.I get totally pissed off to see clubs build a strong team which can take years only to find it torn apart by the salary cap. Typical we finally have created a good team under Brad Arthur but now we struggle to hold onto our players as their value is suddenly inflated.Melbourne i think was very badly treated by the NRL.They did go over the so called cap but all they were doing was holding on to players that they had brought up as juniors only to find that that because of their success they have to let those young players go. In the Eels case we had trouble attracting players back in 2014 because out team was looked upon as being very ordinary and we were forced to pay overs to average players to attract them to the club which forced us to spend over the salary cap.

Under the current salary cap there would have been no great St George and Souths teams of the past and no great eels side of the 1980s, they instead would have been broken up.I think a salary cap system used in the 80s which from memory allowed a club 13 imported players and the rest had to come from the junior ranks. This was a much better system which doesnt penalise clubs for their junior development but stops clubs totally buying a pemiership.

It would be foolish to think that the other teams are under the cap they just have smarter boards that hide the TPAs a bit better.

It is also obvious that either former players or employees have leaked information on Parramattas salary cap issues to suit their own agenda. They are scum and should be banned from our club for life.

So whatever happens tomorrow I hope our lads really stick it up the NRLs nose and fight their way to the premiership. We have the coach, the players and the attitude to turn this comp upside down.

Go the mighty Eels and the NRL hang your heads in shame.

  • Unless you have a method of tracking payments and gifts into the hands of the players (or partners), any rule you impose regarding salary cap or TPA is useless.

A player draft may get around this if you forced a player to play for the highest bidder, but that has been suggested and overturned in the past (Terry Hill).

Another suggestion that had been mentioned on these forums a few times has been a points system (like Supercoach). Then you have the subjectivity of how points are awarded to contend with.
