Saddest Headline -Cayless Sacked?

Today's Sunday Telegraph has an article written by "Filthy" Phil rothfield...

He has a section as to what will be the "SADDEST HEADLINE OF THE 2010 SEASON"...

He says it will be something like "Parramatta sack Nathan Cayless", saying how can Anderson pick Cayless ahead of Fui Fui and Justin Poore, he says Cayless has great support from Nathan Hindmarsh etc.

But how can we give him a new contract with the Mortimer Contract and the Hayne $500,000 a season upgrade kicks in.

So whats the feeling here, Does he know something is happening???

This surely will affect Cayless's head and knowing he is captain, but has to start on the bench, knowing he is not good enough to start etc....

I hope this gets done all behind closed doors and not the media beating this up pushing Cayless out. Remember he may not be the world's best prop, but he has shown immense loyalty to Parramatta where many others have walked. He could have left for bigger dollars several seasons ago, the Warriors threw massive money at him, he stayed.

He also feels the EELS will be premiers, along with Souths as a chance...

And one last thing he goes on to say is "The rookie of the year", Old Parramatta bad boy Albert Kelly, that we let go to the Sharks, apparantly he played very well in the trials??? Lets see huh...

  • I doubt very much that we''l see the Cayless sacked headline....I think we'll see one of the best seasons out of him due to the competition for spots. The man is the heart and soul of the Eels.

If he's travelling well in the first 5 rounds we are in for a big year.....
  • Cayless has been very loyal, and he did well by spending time under Dean Pay and gang during his early days, but i can't help but think he's past it or just isn't big enough in todays game. I hope too that its not a media beat up or witch hunt. Only time will tell I guess, and I also admire Hindmarsh for sticking up for a mate, but if it means that he steps down for the greater good, aka premiership, then I'd have much more admiration for the guy.
But on the flipside.........Hope he proves me wrong, as I'd love nothing more to see him go out with a premiership ring.
  • Clubs need to stick by players that have shown loyalty.
  • I think Cayless could be a revelation coming off the bench. Lets face it, he should not have to do all the grunt work anymore.
He still is a very good ball player, he has had to be our hard running forward over the last couple of years, when he should have been use as a ball player.Lets hope he thrives with the additional help and finishes with a premiership.
  • I think we just can't expect cayless to give us too many standout performances this season, he's done alot for the club.. our pack this year we'll give us much better go-forward, so cayless should be able to do more ball playing than hitting it up. I do think he should come off the bench, our domination in the forwards for the first 20 minutes will go along way towards our playmakers controlling the game.
  • i thought cayless was awesome by the end of last year, he is still mobile enough and has a good turn and offload. He just isn't great for general hit-ups, but with the size of our pack this year i think he is actually gonna have a good season.
  • He certainly deserves his spot in the team but it has to be off the bench,Fui and Poore will smash teams early and Caylo and Mannah can come on and consolidate our position.
  • cayless is a better proposition for us coming off the bench. He seems to add something to us when he comes on with his leadership and constant hit ups. His effectiveness in the first 20 minutes is minimal IMO. We need to get our middle 20 in games sorted as we need to build pressure after the first 20 mintes. Cayless holds his own when the sting is out of the game and he can do some nice offloads and 2nd phase stuff. let the young bulls do the hard stuff....
  • Caylo is one of nicest blokes you'd ever hope to meet

from my few chats with him over the years, you see clearly see he bleeds blue n gold

I have no doubts that if he feels the team is better served him with playing from the bench he would happily relinquish the captaincy to Hindy. He wouldn't let his own pride get in the way of parra succeeding.

Caylo is a legend and whilst his best may be bhind him, I think he still has plenty to give to this team this year and deserves a premiership more than anyone for his loyalty and years of service to our great team
  • Slow news day. It was an 'opinion' piece. Crystal-balling the coming season. It was designed to rev people up. It's bloody journalists, mate; I should know... I am one!

I haven't listened to that SC playbook podcast (yet) but have listened to Adam Druissi talk over the years. He's got a good head on his shoulders. A smooth operator.
