            • If we had a Walsh or Ponga at fullback that would be a great option. Cleary was terrific last night. He struggled early on being the only kicking option. The line speed (and the fact that everyone is offside in origin) really cuts down his time when they can just load up on Cleary. It also limits Clearys options on the 4th tackle (can't afford to be tackled on the 5th)

That last 10-15 minutes is exactly why Cleary is a champion. That 40/20 was pure poetry.

Cleary and Moses is the best combination NSW has in my opinion and it's not even close.

              • Accept if Moses played last night instead of Strange, NSW would not have won!

Cleary and Moses do not work as a combo....... when Sterling and Mortimer vied for the NSW job, they never picked them as a combo.

          • This might sound unpopular, but Cleary is leading the Dally M's, kicked a 40/20 to win the game, kicked the ball that Tedesco scored from, scored a try and lifted the team......Oh and Moses should take his place because Moses has been only ineffective because Parra has NOT opened up enough games.......Really?

Yep Cleary can joined MON in the sacked crew along with all the other idiots that we can identify.....notice I said " identify, not spell" that would have left me embarrassed.

            • I completely agree with you about Cleary obviously but I can't see how you say they don't suit each other when they've only played 1 game together for a win? Your kicking game is everything in origin and having a secondary kicking option in Moses is huge. Moses has won 4 out 5 origins he's been involved in, let that sink in. Moses completely reduces the target on Clearys back. If Ponga doesn't get sent no one is talking about Strange today. I'm not trying to discredit Strange, the young pup did really well when the game opened up for him but it's just fact.

              • You only need one playmaker in the side, a side with more ready made play makers because of the status of the players picked......precludes the likes of Moses, kicking is important but not a factor when you have someone like Cleary there. Moses provides none of the "grunt" that players like Deardon and now Strange have shown.

If Cleary was injured before the end of the first half, you could make a case for dropping Cleary, but not anymore! Moses is destined to be the back up and that happens i.e. the Stirling/Mortimer. Johns played hooker for NSW and I think even Australia. Alfie was around during that period as were a number of other very good halves.

Moses is no great, and I am one of his biggest fans!

                • Completely disagree with you on this one Pops. No I won't accept that NSW wouldn't have won if Moses was there. Again I reiterated kicking is THE most important factor in origin. Cleary was under pressure for 60 mins last night and was forced to run and make some poor options earlier and his kicks were very shallow for a lot of that 1st half. It wasn't until the game opened up that he was able to get the time to do what Cleary does. We can argue all day long but only having 1 general play kicker in origin is a disaster.

                  • That's fine, its a discussion, not in the "idiot" category of some on here over the last 24 hours.

In some ways I hope you are right as I like to see Moses do better than he currently is.

This is maybe a bit rhetorical but when Moses made his mark for NSW it was when Cleary was injured, did he have a back up kicker in those teams? I think it was Luai and he is a different style of kicker, say grubbers?......Strange can kick by the way, tends to be secondary at Canberra ....was Fogarty now Sanders.

PS and I didn't bring this up because they had only played the one game together but in that game Cleary hardly passed a ball to Moses, cut him out of every play. Good players are selfish, Moses wasn't ready for it. Same thing happened at the Australian level, Harry Grant hardly did first passes to Moses, nearly always on the other side of the ruck to Deardon. Deardon MOM playing 5/8. Meninga coach was happy to see it happen, other games, are very dependant on the dominant half being fed by the dominant hooker.

        • Too much common sense there LB, sorry your off the team!

    • I reckon Moses will start game 2 with strange in the centre or coming off bench. Any chance we could snag Strange to parra.

      • How could we get Strange when it seems we struggle to get 90% of our targets.

Sorry Parrafan not you in particular but I hate when people see a great game by a player and go "we should get him" like it's that easy and there is not their own club that wants him.

"I agree they don't suit each other, but I can almost guarantee they'll both be selected if they're both fit.
I doubt Mitch will be fit enough though, he's playing injured, so it's probably a moot point."

Storm 4-0 restarts in the first 30 minutes. Advantage: 3 v 12 minutes of death zones. A big fatigue factor. We probably should have made many more errors…"
