It was better than a BA stunned mullet stating that they didn't front load their effort enough. I thought it was interesting how Ryles knew the stats off the top of his head around missed tackles split by half. You'd imagine all the training work has been focused on the second half performance, rather than the first half.
It's good to see that Ryles takes the presser as a time to open up and give us some analysis and breakdown on the whole process.
BA always felt highly defensive in pressers and it led him to not really give anything away and just use the same few phrases over and over. I have no doubt he had his reasons as much of his coaching effort was based around having a seige mentality (him and the players against the world) but from a fans perspective this Ryles approach is so much more engaging.
Ryles was introspective without giving much away. It was nice to see. Obviously it's easy to be open when there's no pressure on you...but I hope this is the start of a new communication style that Ryles sticks with even when the going gets tough.
I get there's a lot of disappointment and frustration on this forum. Ryles seems to be on the right track on where the team fell short. Definitely the contact needs to be a lot better to slow down the play. Just wish we had a couple alpha males to provide some sting in defence. Junior isn't one and unfortunately we let RCG go. That's what Liam Martin, Sorensen and Leota does so well for the Panthers. Time will tell whether Ryles and Sam Moa are able to stiffen up the defence.
What little attack we had yesterday, needs to improve. Would like to see Volkman and DB kick with purpose when in opposition half. Forgo a little distance so every kick is contestable, bringing Lomax into the contest.
Good post.
My biggest disappointment is the unprepared nature of the side.Ryles knew what was coming but the team looked like the deer in the headlights.
I mentioned this about the pre season hit outs what I saw there was in no way an ideal way to prepare for Melbourne rd1.The answer mostly was met with was it got brushed for the most part.
I fear for Ryles because in the middle of the park and on the edge I don't think we have any answers within this roster we have now.
Have to remember this was v the red hot storm who will cut most teams to shreds. Let's see how this week looks v tigers
Great presser by Ryles, open and authentic communication is a refreshing change compared with whatever was dished up by BA.
Said that there was an 'incident' with Moses, but never elaborated on it. Obviously referring to the foot injury, but would have been nice to say how it happened.
Agree Fong, glad we don't have to subject ourselves to them dopey responses from the previous coach - I'm expecting a different performance this week, might be too early for a huge spray from Jason' - a coach can only do that a few times a year.
If they did that it may seem as though they want to do positive things within and for the club
A few weeks ago some here were popping the champagne as certain board members of the club were re-instated. I asked why the celebrations ? No response.
Was a genuine query that nobody could seem to answer , so we must assume it's just because people are playing favourites voting for their mates. This is the problem with this fucking club and it's bonehead voting members. It's always political favourites for whomever people think they think they'll benefit personally the most from.
Now yes , I'm sure we shall hear about how the club has absolutely no say over the football club, ( again a claim nobody can seem to back up , having been involved with clubs for many years I'm yet to see this scenario , considering they all seem to be at the table together when requesting funds) .
Now , I never said the recently elected should or shouldn't be there , quite neutral on this actually , but as some were so pumped and broadcast it on here like it was massive steps forward I was hoping to find out why ? But as I said , nothing could be put forward which leaves us to assume that nothing actually positive can be produced as an example of anything they'd done , Fong , other than just fill a chair like the rest of the stuffed shirts that seem to think we are kicking goals.
