  • It gets worse as it ages....

Im big on the kids we have coming through but the NRL is a grave yard full of the bodies of promising kids who never reached their potential.

If they believe Pezet is the right guy in 2026 why isnt he the right guy beyond that.

    • Maybe because the 7 jersey is unavailable here and Pezet has his career set to playing halfback.

      • That's what I was thinking too. I was concerned about having two 7's long-term, but assumed Pezet would be ready to take over after Mitch retires.

  • Maybe Ryles is mates with Braith.

  • How does it get worse as it ages ?

I think what a lot of fans are confusing is 2026 isn't meant to be the same as 2025 for us . It's not about getting the kids in and familiarising them with systems and seeing how we want to move forward in 2027 etc .. it's about putting together as competitive a side as we can and getting guys like Iongi , Ryley Smith etc etc continuing to improve and playing in games of consequence. We want them winning games and moving into being a finals side:

The last thing we want is a stalled year where Mitch misses a bunch of games and we say ' well if we had Moses playing we would've made the 8' . We need to play in games that matter , where mistakes and lapses in concentration are costly and putting ourselves in pressure situations that those games bring .

To me Pezet improves our chances of doing this in 2026 A. Because he's a talented half and B because it doesn't all fall to shit if Mitch misses games .

it's not about developing him for the broncos it's about him being a part of the next development of our side. If this time next year we have a young 6 coming into a side with finals experience we have progressed in our development and we are a more attractive destination for any recruits we go after . We are going in the right direction and we need to keep going in the right direction .  This time next year our young halves have 2 more NRL preseasons and a full season of game time development - NRL isn't the place they need to be right now .. people are forgetting that Cup and training reps are also valuable development as is surrounding themselves with Mitch and a guy that has 3 years in the Storm system .. the most professional system in the comp for 20 years .

    • What doesn't sit right with me is pretty much developing him for Brisbane. What if he plays amazing in 2026? We go oh that was great oh he's gone.

  • Okay, if the priority is focusing on our juniors (Lorenzo) and giving them the time and space to develop then having Pezet as a stop gap then i'm on board. Obviously it feels weird and a bit of a gamble to bring in a good player for just 1 year then handing him over ot the Broncos, but I suspect Pezet's asking price was a bit of a blowout for what he's actually worth.

Ryles knows Pezet well and probably has a good view of his baseline and celing, and he must know what he has in Lorenzo and Papalli, so if he thinks they're close enough and is just giving them a bit of space to develop then I think he's the guy to make that call. To be fair to Ryles, he hasn't gotten it wrong yet.

But, I am still secretly hoping for Metcalf in 2027 🫣

    • Exactly right - hes not taking a gamble on Pezet. He knows him , what he'll bring and if youve noticed I feel we've been recruiting guys that have come from what Ryles deems as good coaching. Pezet can bring as much to us as we cn give him over the next 12 months. He can help the young blokes at the very least in terms of preperation and attention to detail. Broncos will probably get his best years but Ryles clearly has his path he wants to be on and this move helps him progress on it.

  • What happens if Pezet actually likes being at the Eels and doesnt want to leave?

    • Wouldn't matter if the club doesn't offer him a deal.

"This is just a thought, but I think that Pezet had to take up on his clause before the season started, or else he'd be locked into a long-term contract with the storm, so by being our backup 7 this year, it lets him get to the Broncos earlier than…"

"Bit of a shame we're losing Hawkins. He was the best backup 7 we've had in a while and done a great job while Moses was out.
Does that mean Volkman moves to 7 and Joash moves to 5/8 in NSW Cup?"

"These guys are pro athletes, not office workers. Their reputation is part of what motivates them.
As for Papalii, he will still be at the club in 2027. Moses will probably miss half the year so Papalii will get plenty of game time."

"Why? Did u watch Anastas podcast? Highly unlikely he would move to Parra for one year to play reggies when he could do that in Melbourne."
