Ryles is our Alex Ferguson

Ladies and Gentleman,

To clarify R&R decision-making that has been a recent topic on our site.

Last October, our CEO Jim Sarantinos was kind enough to give us his time when he explained our club's philosophy.

"The roster always has been, always will be and always should be the coach's roster...It's Jason's team."

"No player joins the roster without the coach’s sign off and no one leaves the roster without the coach’s sign off."

"The coach sets the strategy, then the Coach, GM Football and Head of Recruitment then work together to secure the talent. The CEO and Chair are a sounding board," Jim added.

Sure, it wouldn't be a linear process. For example, the likes of Jack Williams and Isaiah Iongi had long been on our radar, before Jason Ryles was here, but it was Ryles who approved them.

In short: if Ryles isn’t convinced, no roster changes happen. Near fits aren't enough. He's the Coach, final R&R decision-maker, selector, our culture and roster architect in one. He’s our Alex Ferguson. Let's hope he channels some of his success too.

        • Incremental improvement is about where I'm at and I'm not crowning anything of JR just yet.I'm with you I still don't trust the guys around him and it feels like we've got a bandwagon situation JR makes the footy decisions and everyone else just jumps onboard. So basically we are JR or bust.

In saying this I'm more convinced of what's being put on the park right now than what I've seen the last 2 seasons.Me I'm a 2027 guy before we see what this team can really be as long as like you say Randy we continue seeing incremental improvement I can live with that as I think we are all realistic about what we are we can go with most teams bar the top 4-5 Canberra Melbourne Roosters Riff Sharks Dogs have still got our number we are still. Bit behind these sides.

Systems important the more we continue to grow in it we can learn to survive injury SoO selection and alike like the top sides do.

      • I like it Pops. Except I like Ryles - Rookie tag. To me , I like boasting to my friends how much a Rookie has brought to the table. It's astonishing really. The will and drive to change the place for the long term, not just the instant sugar hit  - so to speak. The new culture to playing style.

Including the fans, the old boys and club legends right down to making the players take quiz's on our clubs history, and the  achievements including who our club legends are and what they have done. Being a Rookie coach with all that he is bringing  to the club is to me simply incredible and something i like to boast about to my footy friends. How good might he get after a few seasons.

But like you say he does not appear as a Rookie, with what he his bringing to the table. I'm loving that he actually backs up what he says about only wanting players that want to play and win for the club. Releasing well respected senior men when their drive has gone missing or their priorities were money instead of creating a winning club.

'I'm rambling. The Bundy's have kicked in and i'm ready to see us finally put the little bunnies back into their burrows.

      • You play to win - we want them to win. Win the fucken lot I say!  Now I'm off to see Randy's specialists - hope they bulk bill!

  • Ryles is the goat 🐐.  Ive said it from day 1

    • Wow, blowing your load early much Chiefu....he hasn't yet proved that he is not a goat, let alone The Goat.

      • Lol 8==D-   when you've been under the bush coach for a decade,  it doesn't take much to blow my load nowadays

I blew my load when I heard the afl are getting snoop doggy.     I'll bet the nrl.are looking at Jessica mauboy now

  • I love ryles. He will take us to a premership

  • When Ryles was first annouced, I wasn;t happy.   Rookie coach meh...   As soon as I watched the first interview he did on ParraTV, I was convinced we had the right bloke in charge.   Culture and Community impressed me straight up.   He has moved away from old attacking and defensive structures from day dot, and yes, it's taken some time to emmbed these massive changes, but we are starting to see a difference.   The youth he has blooded, the old player moved on, brav for a Rookie to do, but we have unearthed some great young players.   I never thought we would be contenders, or even close that this year, but after every game, I ask myself 'were we better than last week'.   And most times I have been able to say 'Yes'.   I believe that we will challenge for a top 8 spot next year (Without a shit ton of injuries to key player I hope) but we are a club on the way up with a Rookie coach I had very different ideas about to what I have now some 10 months later.   Go those Eels, and smash those Bunnies.

"Will be interesting to see how Iongi at #6 and Papalii at #1 goes, if that's in fact what Ryles has in store. IF it plays out that way, does that suggest Ryles wants to trial as many at #6 as he can? That motive has to be part of dropping Hawkins…"
