Ryles, have we seen enough to declare he can coach?

Do you think you have seen enough to declare Ryles is going to be s good coach?, it's a resounding yes from me. I declared early on that he will be the coach to end out premiership drought and that feeling has only been reinforced as the season has progressed.  It's a bold statement but I'm sticking to it.

  • He's clearly a proper coach, but yeah the test is the next 18 months.

He has a style which he implemented, he's shown he can improve players, and he's very clear about the type of player he wants.

The remaining aspect is instilling the mentality. Keeping the players believing  and handling pressure. THat's the next 18 months.

If he keeps us playing this style of football under weight of expectation we'll be top 4 very soon.

    • Great point, i am very excited to see this time next year as to whether the team has progressed steadily, stagnated or gone backwards. It will be fascinating but if this is him in year one lets see him with more experience and 2nd pre-season i reckon things might be done differently or could be better as the squad know what to expect and what is going on.

  • Yes in last month i have we beat Brisbane should of beat storm should of beat south then Turn it around to beat the Roosters and Warriors

Yes i think he can coach i think if we get 1 or 2 good players

I 1 prop and centre i think we are a top 4 side next year

  • He will deliver us a premiership by 2030

  • People need to remember, Anthony Semen , Todd Payten and Andrew Webster have won Coach of the year previously.  They were all heading onto having brilliant careers before the realities of coaching long term kicked in. Having zero expectations on both coach and roster this season plays a huge part .

The way we've finished the year should be enough to convince some potential signings they'll have some joy if they sign.  We are in a great position having unearthed some green shoots, add 3 established players and Ryles can do some good .

    • you have to admit though the roster Ryles has to work and the first year clean out with compared to what all the above coaches inherited.

      • Can he coach. I believe so

        • I believe so to Hector...word is he is even being paid to do it, like a pro

      • Agree CP, imo its a quick rebuild- wins against top 8 teams with double the cap value is impressive.  Ryles apprenticeship cant be ignored, his no rookie and the support staff are doing a great job. Defensively is the best improvement coupled with reliance on the goal line we haven't witnessed in years- BA coached teams would get lapped 40/50 points that capitulation in a final is unbelievable imo - anyway theres a heap of positives.

        • As i said before in another blog Mick, the old Eels would have lost last night. We seem confident, fitter and stronger than previous years particularly mentally. The one thing Ryles does well is leaning on his support, he brought Nathan Brown in to be his critic, sounding board and everything else included in the job. Then had the likes of Eddie Jones from time to time in and can offer other ideas. He is not afraid to ask for help or opinion on certain things which i do like. Moa and Wisemental also are on board.

Remember many here were writing him off after the Souths loss. One game, one bad performance and it didn't define him and the squad. Brushed themselves off, learned from it and moved onto winning 2 in a row.

"Hoping we've got a few million in cap to buy some big names now. Three quarters of our squad should be on below average wages. "
