Ryles first year as coach.

Just a list of some of the things Ryles has run into in year one.

1. Brown contract debacle

2. Moses injury issues

3. Lomax injury issues

4. Galvin contract debacle

5. Cleaning out BA old contracts and players not required anymore.

it wouldn't shock me if we get the spoon due to all of these issues hitting at once. A lot of our salary cap doesn't even play anymore and our best players have not been available. Mixed in with all the bad but you can see some of the young players improving and the players adapting to Ryles systems.

  • He had two paths to choose from.
    1) Coach to the strengths of the players he had in his side. To get them to perform as best they could whichever style that produced.
    2) Set a clear expectation on how he wanted this team to play and either his squad fell into line or he will get new players.
Clearly he chose option 2. Now we're in a situation where we need to clean out old contracts and find players who can play as JR needs. Rebuild doesn't begin to describe it. It's entirely new foundations.
Apparently we need to be patient even though it's been 40 years of patience. There's no way MON and co would have predicted this or done anything at all to mitigate it. (sarcasm)

  • I love how we lose two games, that we weren't great but not awful in and now we are spoon again. Beat Manly we are talking finals, lose to Penrith and Bulldogs and now spoon again.

Though i will say we lose on Sunday i will jump on the spoon bandwagon with out draw after the next bye. Next two games are crucial.

    • Lucky we don't have any big name players missing.

      • Yeah well GC could as well with Tino and Fotuaika. No excuses to be fair at home.

  •  I say who ever loses out of us and titans the losing side get the spoon

    • Arnold not a bad thing to say to be fair. Newcastle hanging around too.

    • Still a long way from the spoon but if Moses Lomax ect keep missing games then basically we are facing nrl sides with a young team with no real nrl experience. I dare say if Moses Lomax played 10-12 of our 13 games so far we'd be closer to 8-10th on ladder

      • Eli, these next two will help for sure. Then Round 19 v Penrith with Moses back and maybe Cleary rested from Origin we are a chance at home.

But if we lose to GC, we are in trouble. We beat Manly with no Moses and Lomax, Titans were due a win now they have it do they go complacent? Plus they have never won at Commbank, issue is Dolphins hadn't either and they won, but Dolphins are a way better outfit.

        After Gold Coast we have:

        Dragons (A)

        Bye

        Penrith (H)

        Raiders (A)

        Storm (H)

        Broncos (A)

        Cowboys (H)

        Rabbitohs (A)

        Roosters (H)

        Warriors (A)

        Knights (H)

Could be a home spoon bowl again hahaha.

        • The 2 games we probably would have been favoured for Moses isn't playing so we will be underdogs in both. Once Moses is back for the run home anything can happen imo

        • It's not so much this is a bad team it's just the top tier players haven't been available and the depth is shallow

"Agreed. JR's attack and defensive tactics have looked good. But it all means shit if you put a team out like that."

"So looks like the players unavailable are;

Moses
Brown
Moretti
Tuivita
Dunster
Simonson
Richie Penisni
Tago
Latu

Then Lane, Joe O and Carty have left mid year too. Matto being a pussy too so out of favour again.
I genuinely wonder what our top 30…"
