Ryles confirms Pezet play

Michael Chammas is reporting, though not final, the deal is close. The reason for the deal is they only want Pezet for one year max to not block the path of their talent of the future. https://www.zerotackle.com/munster-reveals-contract-intention-ryles-confirms-pezet-play-228340/

Well it is hard as Joash more likely plays Fullback in Cup and with Hawkins and Volkman more likely the halves in Cup, where does Talataina get reps other than Flegg? Still do not agree with it but Ryles has a plan and all we can do is hope for the best. It is very weird but i wonder, just wonder if there is more to it here where we have a Brisbane player on our mind and this is a type of you can have him if you do this.

Not saying It is the case, tin foil hat theory.

But Ryles has a plan behind it, not saying i think it makes sense but let's see how it goes.

    • Agreed fully. Why would we go i to a season knowing we are no chance of a Premiership, especially if we can make moves to improve our chances? Ryles has shown that he sees Volkman and Hawkins as backup halves, not regular topline halves. Adding to this, as others have said, Pezet is more of a half anyway. We need a plan for the future, and no doubt our juniors will get some development in the higher grades next year.

      • Finny, you cannot believe for a second that Pezet will have any dynamic effect on us winning a premiership.....he is a "vanilla" player at the best.....".Pezet is more a half anyway" "we need plan for the future" (your quotes).

How do you rationalise that with Pezet going to Broncs at the end of his first year?????????????

        • He was available for one year, and is arguably more developed as a half that Papalii, or any of our development halves. Clearly Ryles doesn't believe Hawkins and Volkman are regular NRL level halves, so they are effectively out of the picture. We could persist with Papalii at 5/8 and hope he continues to improve, but Pezet available for one year, why would you not take the opportunity? If Papalii performs better, well I have no doubt Ryles would make that change. He's not afraid of putting the best team on the park, regardless of their salary.

Having said that, it's clear Ryles is confident that one of our juniors will slot in at 5/8 for 2027. That means we are not wasting a year developing a half as the sole NRL 5/8. NRL is not a place to develop key players - they need to hit the ground running. I believe Ryles did the swap with Brown & Papalii towards the end of the season becuase it was clear we were not going to make the finals.I don't believe the original plan was for Paps to play 5/8 at NRL level.

          • The nightmare is real now replacing DB we are stop gapping and don't have a plan b and have basically blown so many options it's now becoming a pisstake.

Make no mistake we aren't moving foward as a club or FG side here all we are doing is delaying the process as this time next year we probably still won't have our guy.

IMO this is an absolute cluster fark of a recruitment exercise and is what I feared this club off the park is miles away from winning a premiership.

            • Please enlighten us to how many quality NRL level 5/8s we have missed out on. I can see a number of rookies going around, but I don't recall seeing topline 5/8 becoming available since DB signalled he was leaving.

I don't know about you, but I felt that by the end of 2025 we are in a much better position as a club that previous years. Not sure how that aligns with claims of not moving forward. You can only do so much with the players that are available, and they have to fit within a cap too. Most here would push out promising juniors in order to buy in regular NRL level players and then complain we are losing our up and coming talent.

    • Dylan Walker can play 5/8 in your equation Bluey!!!

"we can pretend all we like that Joash was the answer"

I was not of the view at the time that Joash was the answer, but he convinced me he was a potential answer and I have no objections with him going into the role, especially after a pre season training there with Moses, they will know and that same judgement will be made on Pezet when they find he can't run out of sight on a dark night.

      It's not a win!

      • Pops if we are going down the path of Forwards returning to the halves after extended  time in the pack, hell we have Ryan Matterson and Brendan Hands both former halves and we could of kept Carty.

I still stand by my point that we have no real first grade half to compliment Mitch. I feel that Dylan Walker has lost a lot of pace, put on some pounds and can't get through an 80minute stint. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though.

As for Pezet not being able to run, not sure if i subscribe to that yet, but i'll attack it from a different angle. Does Pezet in the team allow Mitch Moses to run more.

        • Stop gap for a season I bet Walker could do the job.

  • I think it will be Hawkins and talatina for our halves in cup. Volkman likely Ron Massey/back up.

Only person who might be lost long term is twiddle but don't see him becoming better than iongi (or joash) so would likely have only been a back up half at best next season

    • The positive for Twidle is he can play various positions. He has the body to play other positions and learn those spots.
