Ryan Matterson's deal with Gold Coast falls through

Parramatta Eels forward Ryan Matterson had a deal in place with the Gold Coast Titans for a move there, however the deal has now reportedly fallen through. Details as to why the deal fell through are not available. It means the 189 NRL game veteran will remain at Parramatta for 2026 on a salary reportedly worth $700k.

The fact a team was interested shocked me but it is disappointing as we know Matterson will not feature in 2026, even if he did it would be in a very minimal role as Ryles moves towards the likes of Moretti, Tuivaiti, Guymer and Talagi as future middles.

                    • Matto played 34 / 48 NRL games, post 2022 (2023-24).

BA/Barrett seemed to rate Matto higher than Ryles who played him for 4 games this year. That's never happened to Matto before in 10 years.

                      New coach, new ideas.

PS: As an aside, Moses played 21 / 48 games in last two seasons (24-25).

                    • Your last paragraph is not in question Mitchy.

Parra DNA for head of football sounds good, but who would you recommend.

The people that did our review, a realistic transaction that came with Max Donnelly recommended MON because by their reckoning he was harshly treated by Tigers.

All your comments seem to be in hindsight and are hard to put out there now.

Would you not be better funding a campaign to get rid of MON by putting up the arguments with his current situation and maybe admitting whatever happened 3 1/2 years ago is not going to change how much we paid Matto. It is hardly relevant unless you can put up an argument for a new HOF and how that person works with Ryles in achieving Parra's goals.

    • I have said it a few times but it is one example of how this current committee showed signs of panic. They lost Mahoney, Papali'i, Kaufusi and Stone all reletively close to each other. Then Paulo and RCG flirted with the Dolphins, then Matto did too. To avoid more backlash losing forwards, plus Matterson who was coming off being selected for NSW and let's be fair had a really good 2022 season, they caved and offered him a great deal. Average of around $600k per year and 4 years, for a bench player.

      • Interesting to see the players who left; and who has made strong improvements since leaving? Just solid first graders.

        • Yup, none of them have kicked on. They overachieved under Arthur , like many players did.  I'm shocked we even have a club after the great Nathan Brown left........

          • Your shocked we still have a club.....really! that's a great hindsight comment Wiz.....you being shocked and all, we should all stand up and take note of that one!

Hyperbole has a place in your vocab Wiz, shame you don't know when to use it. get off your fucking high horse and start trying to be constructive, anyone can stand back and throw shit at the wall!

            • Engaging your lips before your brains awake again.  If you think about it ,my comments exactly the opposite of what you're implying.

To translate , when Nathan Brown the dickhead who fought lollipop men in the streets was on the outer , many were of the opinion that we couldn't live without his greatness.  He was the biggest loss since Hayne walked out.  Whereas as per my sarcasm , we quite easily lived to fight another day. And he went on to be a total flop of a human both on and off the paddock.

              • I don't think anything you said in that last post is actually true, as against the very partial elements that were not.

Now don't tell me you cannot understand anything I just said. You have shown you speak "goobably gook" fluently.

      • He was a bench player because of his motor. Coming off the bench he could play his 60 minutes in one stint, with only the half time break giving him a rest. The starters got a much longer break. Matterson was second best in our team for PCM per game. He basically picked up RCG's workload when he went off, in attack and defence. Matterson's club form was elite in 2022 which is why he was picked in Origin. He was still excellent in 2023. It was only last year he began to decline. This year his form fell off a cliff.

    • Exactly , the same fuckwits that have popped up time and time again for all the wrong reasons with different aspects of agreements they've engineered. .
