Parramatta Eels back-rower Ryan Matterson has re-signed for four seasons and will remain at the Club until the 2026 season.
Making his Origin debut last week, Ryan has been in career best form for the Eels.
Parramatta Eels General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill said Matterson’s retention was important in helping the Eels maintain one of the best forward packs in the NRL and Ryan’s commitment to the club is a sign of his belief in the playing group, coaching staff and the direction the club is heading.
“Ryan is an integral part of our team moving forward, he’s a versatile player, has a great offload in his game and is the ultimate professional on and off the field. Since re-joining the club in 2020, Ryan has played his best football which was rewarded with selection for NSW in Origin 1.”
Matterson is a Parramatta Eels junior and has played over 130 NRL

Matto and rcg axed from the blues
The team is built around Cleary and Tedesco . If you're not a Panther or a Rooster you're going to be a scape goat if things don't go right .
My suspicions were correct. This game was about SOO selection hence the improvement in the standard from everyone. Have to feel sorry for Dylan Edwards and I suppose they can't select another Panther but I think close to best fullback in comp week in week out. What a player his time will come. Api well deserved my first choice the happy hooker. Queensland are a very good side and will be hard to beat and with added advantage.
Wow, 3 and a half years later all these good judges can't be right.....maybe a good time to get some critics in here to show that R&R did a job..........
At the end of the day, it feels like Ryan Matterson has let the fans down. Going from a SOO player to playing NsW cup and unable to get a look in at any other club accross the globe.Wonder who is to blame. The man, the myth, the coaches, the recruitment gurus, the fans , the club, the attitude, the skill level, the parents, the manager, the friends, the advisors, the media, or the rules. Interesting how people see it.
How does one slide that far in the space of a very short time, when you could be at your peak.
When the repeated head shots reach a point, or even after one seriously heavy pummelling, some good boxers can lose ability to compete really quickly. They often work hard to regain their touch, but it's gone and it ain't coming back....Just sayin'
Whatever the cause, the problem is between his ears
Injuries you think Randy. Might be something in that, injuries and rehab takes its toll on all of us at one time or another. Lane was never the same after having his jaw caved in, poor buggar.
That x- ray of Lane's facial bone damage was intense.
Perhaps Matto has a subconcious fear that his next big head shot may leave lasting damage. He thinks everything is fine, gyms good, training good, but he can't make an impact anymore as subconcious fear holds him back. Fear does not always speak very loudly and quickly. It can quietly stalk you from within
Sleculation of course, but the problem is between his ears and he either doesn't know it is there or if he does, he cannot overcome it. Training harder won't help. A top notch non-sport related psychologist might help him recognize his fear or whatever it is, but it won't fix it.
He is cooked
