Ryan Matterson agrees to terms!

Ryan Matterson has agreed to terms for a three year deal with the Parramatta Eels commencing in 2020, which includes an option in the third year.

The second rower is a Parramatta Eels junior, and played three years in the lower grades where he represented the Australian School Boys and Australian Junior Roos while playing in the Under 20’s National Youth Competition.

Ryan signed with the Sydney Roosters where he made his NRL debut in 2016 and later played in the winning 2018 grand final team.

In 2019 Ryan moved to the West Tigers where his football went to another level and he earned selection as the 18th man for the NSW Origin team for games 1 and 2.

Parramatta Eels Head Coach Brad Arthur said he was looking forward to Ryan joining the Eels line-up, "It’s always great to see the return of a local Parramatta Eels junior. He’ll have a whole pre-season with the team and I know he’ll be an asset to our Club next year."

Ryan will commence pre-season training with his new teammates this month.

  • Yes!!! Great signing.

  • Well done by the club to bring him home and add another attacking option to the squad.

Matterson is the 2nd PARRA jr who had left that I am glad has returned home, 1st being Moses.

    • Junior Paulo too.

      • My bad, glad to have Jr back but was referring to those who left and made their NRL debut elsewhere. Should of been more clear.

    • Looks like we've forgotten about Twal haha

  • Good signing IMO, he can be our cut price Wade Graham.

    • 100% agree. Said it heaps of times, Matterson can be Wade Graham type player for us.

  • "Parramatta Eels Head Coach Brad Arthur said he was looking forward to Ryan joining the Eels line-up, "It’s always great to see the return of a local Parramatta Eels junior"

What BA really meant was that it's always great to see a eels juinor leave the eels and his  coaching to go to another club so he can learn how to play then return to the eels at a premium price .  Has their ever been a club that  has let players go then  brought them back for a premium price like the eels ?  Can only imagine what the eels payed for him .

"Bit of a shame we're losing Hawkins. He was the best backup 7 we've had in a while and done a great job while Moses was out.
Does that mean Volkman moves to 7 and Joash moves to 5/8 in NSW Cup?"

"These guys are pro athletes, not office workers. Their reputation is part of what motivates them.
As for Papalii, he will still be at the club in 2027. Moses will probably miss half the year so Papalii will get plenty of game time."

"Why? Did u watch Anastas podcast? Highly unlikely he would move to Parra for one year to play reggies when he could do that in Melbourne."
