  • I can see him flourishing under Ryles, glad he is taking up his option and buying into Ryles vision.

Now for Brown to do the same.

    • Let's hope so. I am happy to eat humble pie if ol' soft head comes good.

    • Yeah I think Ryles will use him smarter than BA did. He's not a bash and barge type player, so we need to tap into his versitility as srengths. I'm sure this decision from him is related to discussions he has had with coaching staff and Ryles moreso than Matto just making sure his wallet stays full.

      • Well Matto was originally on the list of players told they are free to go, then it was reneged. Obviously Ryles saw value in Matterson somewhere. Seems Ryles type Props will be more finesse type players. If you are a out and out Prop you better have skills other than just taking it up.

        • Has he seen value or has Ryles been left holding the bag, after no team made an offer, and Matterson took up his options.

  • As he is entitled to do so. This can be a good thing for the club as it avoids unnecassary talk of what is happening with him, not like it will be big anyway but still noise nonetheless.

Matto, though not quite worth the money he is on, is still a quality player who is very versatile. Put him in the middle, edge or even in the halves.

    • I feel bad Matto, but not bad enough to be happy with He has been a good player but the hia is a serious issue, for us and him. Bashing his head against his own perormance ceiling. His best was pretty good, but i fear that is in the rearveiw.

He is a proper liability going forward

      • I do not see him as a liability at all to be fair. Many are knocking him mainly due to not really being worth the big salary we offered him, also he played Origin just before we signed him so that sort of hand tied us to how little we can pay him, we lost so many players we got desperate and gave him a deal. 2022 he was the best impact player in the comp, though could argue it was a contract year type of effort.

But in terms of form, he has been fine. Attack wise does his work, he is not a defensive liability with 95% tackle effeciency. I cannot remember blaming or having a go at Matto much in 2024, if i did it was apart of a whole team crap performance.

For me it is more so being on SOO money and just being there type of performances, but i do not see him as a libility. To me anyways.

        • main issue was not paying the fine and accepting the 4 match suspension, that was a selfish move - no one doubt's what he brings in the field, hopefully Matto changes his attitude

          • It wasn't selfish, it was an act of "principle".....the money was meaningless the act was naive to the effect it would have.....but never selfish as in a deliberate attempt to hurt anyone, other than the NRL.

His 4 match suspension was up there with the Junior Paulo suspension, a hugh carriage of misjustice. Even Wiz would agree with that.
