  • hmph  ! fight fire  with  fire. i say , adjustments  in attitudes is  paramount  , might  I dare say  , even head  coach   Ryles may have  to  adjust his  attitude  to a more  no nonsense angry  bustard type  of a head coach that is bordering  on intimation to some of these mongrel lack lustre footballers.

  • Is will Latu injured? Not named in NSW cup this week

    • Yes, possible ACL.

      • Given we have head guards for footballers, I see a lot of significant changes in knee guards.....is there a way that ACL's can be protected.

        I decided to check this with AI

        Underneth, this was the response;

        Yes, Anterior Cruciate Ligaments (ACLs) can be protected by specialized functional knee braces (often referred to as ACL braces or guards) following injury or reconstruction, but their impact on performance is a subject of ongoing debate with mixed evidence. While these braces are designed to stabilize the knee, studies suggest they can introduce subtle, though often not statistically significant, hindrances to speed, agility, and power, particularly when first used.

        Protection and Function
        • Mechanism: Functional braces, such as those with a 4-Points-of-Leverage™ system and FourcePoint® hinges, are designed to restrict extreme knee extension and prevent anterior tibial translation (the shin bone sliding forward), which reduces strain on the ACL.
        • Usage: They are most commonly used for high-risk athletes returning to sport after ACL reconstruction, or for those managing an ACL-deficient knee (non-operative).
        • Efficacy: While they provide mechanical stabilization, studies are mixed on whether they significantly prevent re-tear, though some research indicates they improve confidence and reduce episodes of instability.

        Impact on Speed, Agility, and Performance
        The perception that braces "hamper" performance is common, and objective studies show variable results:
        • Initial Disadvantages: Initial use of a functional brace can lead to a decrease in performance, including slower sprint times (40-yard dash) and increased muscular fatigue, especially in the quadriceps.
        • Accommodation/Adaptation: Studies show that after approximately 12–14 hours of use, athletes accommodate to the brace, and performance differences (speed, agility, vertical jump) between braced and unbraced conditions become statistically insignificant.
    • Every time WIll Latu has started to gain form and fitness over the last 3 seasons he has sustained a long term injury that ruled him out for the season. The bloke has no luck.
