  • Too early to say yet. Depends on injuries, possible new players coming through. How the trial matches go. Don't the Eels play Bulldogs in round 1 at CommBank? When is exactly Round 1.

    • Next Year!

Fit and healthy, that’ll be the team to run out in round 1.

Can this team win the comp?

    • I don't believe it can.

Zero strike weapons in the backline. Sivo goes good from close range but lacks speed.

      Penisini still needs work.

Simonsson is an adequate backup but isn't a 1st grade starter.

      Russell is a reserve grader.

      • In all due respect to Sivo, he was voted the third fastest player in the NRL in 2023 (Mitch at eight and Gutho at 19).

        NRL'S FASTEST PLAYERS 2023

        1. Ronaldo Mulitalo (Sharks) 37.188km/h

        2. Jason Saab (Sea Eagles) 37.116km/h

        3. Maika Sivo (Eels) 36.864km/h

        4. Dominic Young (Knights) 36.828km/h

        5. Josh Addo-Carr (Bulldogs) 36.756km/h

        6. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (Dolphins) 36.684km/h

        7. Alofiana Khan-Pereira (Titans) 36.144km/h

        8. Mitchell Moses (Eels) 36.108km/h

        9. Jake Averillo (Bulldogs) 36.072km/h

        10. Kalyn Ponga (Knights) 35.892km/h

        11. Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii (Roosters) 35.784km/h

        12. Dylan Edwards (Panthers) 35.748km/h

        13. Jahream Bula (Tigers) 35.748km/h

        14. Blake Wilson (Bulldogs) 35.712km/h

        15. Tyrell Sloan (Dragons) 35.676km/h

        16. Herbie Farnworth (Broncos) 35.64km/h

        17. Reuben Garrick (Sea Eagles) 35.64km/h

        18. Fetalaiga Pauga (Roosters) 35.64km/h

        19. Clinton Gutherson (Eels) 35.532km/h

        20. Reece Walsh (Broncos) 35.46km/h

        • There are some strange stats here and I would take those ratings as where I take a lot of other stats, missed tackles being a standout, if poor defence didn't get you into a position to make a tackle, then its not  missed, the opposite is getting into a position with extra effort and stopping momentum is still a missed tackle.

Sivo seemed to put on some pace, but I have never seen him actually beat anyone with pace? Reece Walsh and Gutho (underated pace wise) but who would you want to back?

Dyllan Brown doesn't get a guernsey, butI would back him to be close to Moses speed and definetly quicker than Sivo and Guth!

PS I did see Guth stand up Reuben Garrick in a game against Manly in 2022.

Lessons to be learnt looking at this shit?

          • Nothing wrong with those stats when you don't confuse top speed with acceleration. Over 40 metres I would back Walsh but over 80 my money would go on Guth. Sivo is very fast when he eventually gets in full flight but by that time a player with explosive speed like JAC has got the jump on him

            • Sivo doesn't lack acceleration. In fact for a big unit he gets into gear quickly which coupled with his size  is why he can score those tries from 10 - 15 metres out. He's all explosive power. I'm betting that speed reading was on one of those 10 or 15 metres bursts to the corner. But he doesn't sustain top pace for very long  - often to me he seems too gassed to do it. That intercept  playing for Fiji is literally the first time I've seen him keep the foot on the gas for a whole football field length. The most I've seen before that is from about 50 metres out.  I'm betting it's partly because the game wasn't as taxing as an nrl game.
