Rory Brien goes to Tigers

Found out last night off his family that West Tigers signed Rory Brien, they offered him more of an opportunity to play 1st grade then we could.

I can confirm this, official news will come out eventually...

  • Fair enough, I forgot we had him....
  • The Tigers have more back-rowers than we do, so I don't see why Brien would choose to the Tigers than other clubs. He'd be better off staying here and working hard for a spot. There'd be even less opportunity there for him, IMO.

    • actually they just lost Heighington and Ellis....so not really

    • Apparently he's aiming to get into the centre's more than a lock/2nd row position.
  • Did he not sign with the Panthers?

He may go alright there but they did sign Anasta, Buchanan, Gavet, Pettybourne and Thompson?

They did lose Ellis, Heighington and Moors but they still have Bell, Blair, Fulton and Murdoch-Masila?

  • It's a business. You can't really be sentimental with players any more. It's sad that times have changed but that's life. As a kid I lived in Epping. Parramatta were our team. They represented our part of Sydney and you went for 'the locals'.
I remember picking up a Tigers jersey from an op shop and wearing it when i was 8 or 9. An elderly neighbour told me off for wearing it and reminded me who we went for.
    Definitely the good old days
  • Good luck Rory, regardless of what some fans r saying we can't keep them all.

  • Tigers back-rowers include: Matt Bell, Adam Blair, Liam Fulton, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Braith Anasta, James Gavet, Jack Buchanan, Eddy Pettybourne and Bodene Thompson.

With all those back-rowers, can Brien really crack first-grade at the Tigers, should he move there?

    • Matt Bell and Gavet are props so try again.

Bell played as a middle backrower or lock briefly but primarily plays prop through his career and only played lock due to injuries and Tim Sheen's love for playing blokes out of position.

      Buchanan is a nobody.

That leaves Blair, Fulton, Masila, Anasta, Pettybourne and Thompson ahead of Brien.
6 players ahead, with usually 4 playing first grade each week...so 3 injuries and Brien likely plays first grade.

      At the eels there is:
Maitua, Smith, Paulo, Ryan, O'Hanlon, Loko, Lasalo, Harrison and possibly Ken Edwards.
That makes 8 or so players ahead of Brien in the pecking order at parra.

Also to prove Brien was behind all these players, he was sent back to train with wenty part-time while every other backrower stayed in the full-time squad, thus sending a message to Brien that he was last in the pecking order
