Ricky Stuart is right says Jarryd Hayne

SNUBBED Origin star Jarryd Hayne has conceded his future will be in the No. 6 jumper.

A day after NSW coach Ricky Stuart overlooked Hayne for gun No. 1 Josh Dugan - and then suggested the Eels ace's best position was five-eighth - Hayne accepted a positional move was on the cards.

Hayne said he was disappointed to have missed the Origin opener before he spoke about life in the halves.

"I understand five-eight is probably more suited to me but it's something for the future, not something that will happen soon,'' Hayne said.

"I feel most comfortable at fullback and at the moment I don't have the composure to be a [No. 6].''

He felt the recent two-week suspension had not cost him his Blues spot and had in fact allowed him to overcome niggling injuries.

The Eels star had earlier reacted to his Origin axing on social website Twitter saying that he was “very shocked and confused” at missing out on a spot in the NSW squad.

Hayne broke his silence this morning when he posted a message on Twitter, declaring: “Very shocked an confused but life goes on. I will always be a blue and have faith the boys can do it.”

Blues coach Ricky Stuart has tried to get in contact with the Eels fullback to explain to him why he chose to go with Dugan ahead of Hayne but so far Hayne has failed to respond to Stuart’s calls.

  • So there you have it... not happening soon, but will happen one day
  • He's got more composure than Morts. You would think confidence is one thing that jarryd didn't lack, yet he obviously doesn't believe he can handle the position.
  • haha more composure and skills!

He should just do it, the composure will come after a few wins and m.o.m perfomances..

  • Or he doesn't feel its right to put down his halves.
  • Thats what i think it is and also if the eels dont win all the blame will be on hayne as he is now one of the halves.
  • What strikes me is that Mortimer and Hayne actually make a really good combo..

They know eachothers game very well and have put eachother through sweet gaps quite a few times now.. Whether it be at first receiver or second, Morts is always looking for Hayne, and they seem to know where they both are going to be at that particular time...

I would like to see @ 7. Mortimer @ 6. Hayne by years end.. although highly unlikely, it's what I'd like to see..

  • Happy, happy, joy, joy.

I think Hayne has more composure than Robson, Mortimer and Robson put together.

But seriously, if this is the case. Do it now. We really do have to accept that without Hayne at six, we have zero chance of making the finals. So really what do we lose, except give Jarryd experience in the position so we can go into next year with an absolute kick-arese halves pairing.

  • Hayne at Six Seven One Three Two,we still have zero chance of making the finals!
  • So what becomes of Mortimer next season? does he go to the bench as back up hooker/half or do we look to offload him?

  • Absolutely, but I think Jarryd is a little scared to move to 5/8, because - he likes to setup plays from fullback where he can float in and out as pleases, however, you want him putting opposition defences in two minds and on the back foot. It would be incredibly difficult for smart coaches to nullify his potency at 5/8. I say this because Jarryd would have options either side and support runners coming from everywhere, notwithstanding the fact his individual brilliance alone is enough to put you in two minds.

I also see this move giving his team mates the confidence to offload and remind us all of what we saw in 09, but this time, with more control.

Mortimer should play halfback or do a swap with Maguire.
