So, Ricky has given 12 players their marching orders, possibly with more to come, and he has stated that he wants to give each of these players a chance to earn a contract elsewhere.

At first, I thought this was a great thing by Ricky, showing that he cares for his players. So let me say how bitterely disappointed I was to hear Tim Mannah say that the problem against the Sharks was 'attitude'.

Does this mean that the players are STILL NOT PUTTING IN, even though now they are playing for themselves and not so much for the club??? We all know attitude has been a foreign concept for most of our players for quite some time, and they still haven't improved it after being issued the challenge by Ricky.

Ricky, we are obviously not vying for the finals, BUT YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS. As much as many here, including myself, support you, if we get the spoon again this year, YOU WILL BE JUDGED AS KEARNEY WAS JUDGED. We are a proud club. One wooden spoon hurts, so our mission for this year is to avoid the wooden spoon again, not to give underperforming players their 23rd chance. They have had enough time to prove their worth. Make sure your team selections reflect this, please.

Cheers.

  • We are sure things for the spoon again... with the tigers and cowboys winning and us either in neutral r going backwards we might as well take the spoon now

  • Goes to show that RS has made the right decision. Even with a contract up for grabs they still don't put in.
  • X2
  • We r in such a mess I just hope RS gets stuck into the culling & gets rid of the cancer infecting the current squad asap. Forget the noble notion of allowing players to play for contracts elsewhere. Surely the Sharks game confirmed that there is absolutely no future & no character with the existing squad. If the deadwood dug deep & had a go, then fair enough but fairness is a two way street & they shirked it.

RS will be judged starting with our performance 2014 after allowing for the so called rebuilding phase in 2013 so now is the time to bite the bullet & clean out the garbage. The real problem is going to be recruiting capable replacements however the longer we allow the current situation to continue, the harder it will be to recruit.

    • Yeh could not have put it better Mic

    • would you accept mass demotions to wenty?? for mine i would!

  • At this point I don't care if we come last. It will mean all of the 12 will definitely go and none of the maybe's will be retained. The more of the deadwood we let go the better. Replace then will new signs or younger players who have a better attitude.

    • No Jamesy. You should never want your team to get the spoon. 2nd last maybe, but not the spoon.

I'm just hoping that RS remembers he is hired by Parra to win us footy games, not to assist underperforming players with their careers outside of Parra.

  • How do other struggling teams from 4 weeks ago: Warriors, Panthers, West Tigers dig deep and string wins together? Why can't we ever string wins together? when was the last time we won two in a row? And don't go talking to me about our week roster as the Panthers would be weaker, especially when half were Windsor Wolves. The correct ATTITUDE!!!!!!!!! that's how, character, the professional, personal and team pride required to lift yourself up when you are down. Every one gets knocked down, it's the champions that get back up, and right now, actually for the past 4 years, we are devoid of these essential character traits.
What will it take to get this team to have the right stuff, we have our third coach since '09, a new board and still we have "attitude" as the reason for our "unacceptable performance". This is a job for the greatest team / sporting Psychologist in the world.

  • Last or 2nd last it doesn't matter. I just want the team to string a few wins this year.

""can" but might not.
Another year down the gurgler.
We seem to be simply hoping our youngsters turn into world beaters. Even in the 80s good years we mostly produced backs and had to buy decent forwards."
