Reni Maitua will spend 11 rounds in exile before he is able to join new Parramatta Eels teammates

PARRAMATTA signing Reni Maitua will be forced to train in exile and is banned from any formal meetings with his teammates for the first 11 rounds of next year's NRL competition.That's the word from the World Anti-Doping Agency after Maitua earned a shot at redemption via his two-year deal with the Eels.So while his new Eels teammates churn through pre-season training and work on fresh training drills in an effort to atone for their failure this season, Maitua will be following a regimented training program supplied by Parramatta.Eels chief executive Paul Osborne said the situation was not ideal but Maitua would still prove to be a worthy signing."We'll talk to him and give him a program," Osborne told The Sunday Telegraph."He can meet them [players], but he can't come to any official stuff. We'll obviously introduce him to the team."I know he's really keen and he looked really fit the other day."He's around 98kg and he's got our full support."Maitua is desperate to make the most of his Parramatta lifeline after being sacked by Cronulla last year.In a recent interview, the former Bulldogs star talked of his determination to silence his critics."Physically, I feel a lot better than when I exited the game," Maitua said. "The break has freshened me up."They [Parramatta] know how committed I am. I'm not here to muck around."I have lost two years that I'll never get back."People are still going to bag me. I have a lot to prove but, at the same time, I don't really care what they think."The only thing that matters is my teammates, my club and my family."

    Thats the the attitude we want from our players his teammates club and family come first.

    He will train at the same gym danny Green etc train at which is run by hayden Knowles ( head trainer/conditioner ). Fitness wont be an issue and 2 to 3 games will have him ready. What worries me is if we start like we have done for past 4 years and we in 12th spot by round 12 and he is on a hiding to nothing.....

    Potential to be a great buy - but depends on how well the 2011 team starts the year IMO

    Hopefully he trains well, and can play some good footy after 11 rounds.

    he can't even attend functions for the team unless they are anti drug and approved by the dope busters, but I think he is a good signing, he will be chomping at the bit to play by round 11

      You can bet that Reni will be itching to prove his worth and repay the faith to the Eels for sticking by him during the time that he can't play.
      I reckon he can pull it off and play some good footy.
